No search on player?

No search on player? - 04/01/2002 13:56

Am I missing something obvious?
On my Mk2 V2b7 there is no search option on the unit itself, only the remote. How come?

Can it be implemented? if not surely it can be done in Hijack?
I'd find it handy when the IR isnt around

Cheers

Because there aren't any "letter keys" on the front panel to do the search with.

When a later version of the software comes out, you'll get the Soup views from the main menu, which will do the same thing you're talking about and let you scroll with the knob instead of picking letters. But it will take quite a while to find a specific song. You're still better off using the remote to do the searches.

Im thinking of just being able to browse through with the equivilent of the ffwd rev buttons on the remote. This is not too much of a problem when browsing say genre or year.

But I suppose its easier for someone with 10Gb than someone with 100Gb

If I knew enough about Hijack Id have thought it could be added easily?

Yep, and we'll implement this with the full-blown soup views.

There's no point in hacking in a half-assed solution if we're planning to do it properly eventually, is there now?

No there's not roger...

This would be a great feature as I am apt to loose my remote at he most inopportune times...

Although now that we're talking about it, I'm wondering why not let the wheel scroll through the lists in the existing search screens?

Okay, it means you can't adjust the volume while searching. Boo hoo.

And while we're on that subject... What about using the wheel to enter letters (arcade-game-initials-style) for things like preset names? Or heck, to enter individual letters in a search?

Well I was just thinking about using the wheel to search, entering letters is a nice idea, but I wouldnt reccomend it whilst driving
IMHO its something that since it is on the remote it really should have been on the player menu as well.
One of my empegs is currently sat on top of my monitor and the remote is likely to go walkies...
FFS I can een find my on line banking details!
