Variable Dimmer From Voltage - 03/02/2002 20:54

My Passat sends 2-12 volts through the headlight sense line. Is there anything in the circuitry that would all the empeg to vary the dimmer setting based on input voltage?

At this point, its either on or off. You have messed with the dimmer option in the player software, right?

Just curious, could a variable dimmer be set up through software or would this require hardware changes?

Yep, I found that one after I noticed it was WAY dim. Looks fine now (and mostly works ;-), but just thought it would be cool if the dimmer dial on my dash drove the empeg dimmer setting directly.

The only problem with doing a variable dimmer is that different cars control the dimmer differently. Some do it with voltage, others do it through pulse modulation.

Once upon a time, Hugo expressed his desire to eventually implement variable dimmer, but he probably hasn't gotten back to that one yet.

Personally, for me, it would be a useless feature. I never change the brightness of my dash lights, they always stay at the same brightness. So once I've set the player's brightness, there is no need for it to be variable.

I adjust my dash lighting all the time. I would love variable dimming. Some cars dim by adjusting the voltage. Some cars use a floating ground, like mine, which make things difficult.
