New VU Visual - 16/06/2002 10:58

This has been discussed before, but I don't think it's ever been explicitly requested.

I'd really like a version of Anna Vu that would take an animated GIF file (or an animated format of your choice) of say, 50 frames, with 64x32 dimensions.

The VU visual would then convert the VU values into discrete figures between 1 and 50, and display the appropriate frame from the animated gif on the left-hand and right-hand side of the screen, for left and right scales.

This would allow really incredible VU graphics to be designed, with different needles, digital VU meters, or totally different meter views such as those seen on the Pioneer units.

Any chance of this happening?

Cheers,

A.

Now *that* is a sweet idea. Toby, you listening? (Post 2.0 of is assumed...)

If it takes 50 frames (say), and the levels corresponds to each frame linearly... you can do much more than VU meters. I can picture flowers or whatever swaying to the music, customized visuals, anything that can be visualized to be moving forward and backwards in time with the music essentially.

That's what I had when I mentioned the pioneer units - check out http://www.pioneer.co.jp/car/pclink/, then go to download, then level meters - you can preview some of the ones available.

As an addition to this (just to give it the icing on the cake, as it were) it would be nice to be able to have a static image layered behind the animated images (which would need to support transparency, of course) so that features such as a L and an R could be displayed (using a single image drawn twice on each side of the screen allows for no differences in the left and right sides of the meters)

Cheers,

A.

I actually did that for Xmas one year, sent them cookies. You can have Mrs. Fields send them to England.

Hmmm.. alpha-blending in a 2bpp display. Interesting concept.

Hey, Toby has made other seemingly impossible things happen! I wouldn't put it past him...

It might be simpler just to have separate Left and Right multiframe images.

I am now....

Sorry I've been absent for a bit, working hard on another SonicBore project for the past few months, but now the end is in sight and I can start to read this board again, and hopefully start implementing some of your recent ideas.

Missed you all loads...

SonicBore.. I like that.

Glad to hear you're still plugging away... Hope they let you out of the cage soon!
