Multiple Playlists - 20/12/1999 13:50

Hi...prior to installing my empeg, I had a Sony DTX-10 DAT in-dash unit and
played 4-hour tapes with dozens of songs on them. Using the tape as a paradigm
for the playlist, I could stop a tape at any point, insert a new one and resume
it from the point it had stopped.

Along those lines, it might be nice to be able on the empeg to:
(1) start a playlist on the empeg, perhaps called "playlist 1";
(2) suspend it for awhile and start other playlists (numbers 2 and above?);
(3) and later have the capability to switch back and forth between these
multiple playlists from the point(s) where they were suspended.

...I think this would be a cool feature - or at the least the ability to "Insert" a song after the current song that you're playing..

There is an append mode (I think it's made it to release) which adds the search result to the end of the current playlist. I'm not sure how it works, though ;)

I'm sure mac knows...

Could there be an Insert mode too?

Inserts the track to be played next then resumes the current playlist.

Don't you read the release notes Hugo? :)

Go into the search screens and press CD.MD.CH to toggle between append and replace. An ultra-subtle + symbol will appear when in append mode.

This UI will change in the future. I was bored on the plane to Comdex and implemented the back end then just threw in a simple front end to test it.

I do not know what kind of UI change you are meaning to make on this, but if I may make a suggestion:

I rarely use the search screens, as I have my music laid out like I have it on my machine, so I know where pretty much everything is. What would be ideal for me is to append songs to a playlist by simply going through the playlist submenus, and just selecting whatever songs to append to the current playlist. (Of course, this would be a toggle, like the + in CD/MD; there would be a + somewhere whilst searching through playlists, so that you can deactivate the + and just have it work the way it does now).

Make sense? 8)

If not, I can clarify myself, I'm sure..

Few questions about apending. Can you append more then one song, and when you append a song(s) to a playlist is that song now
always on the playlist or only for that one time?

You can append as many as you like. Appended tracks or playlists are only added to the "running order", no playlists are permanently modified.
