playlist title tag crashes emplode

playlist title tag crashes emplode - 18/08/2003 09:02

ive narrowed it down a playlist titled "Headstrong" which does not exist on my player.
when i search for "headstrong" under title the first entry displays a playlist icon then crashes emplode. the log shows nothing related. jemplode crashes every time i open it (not related to the playlist problem.) so i cant fix it with jemplode.
this playlist is not on my player. there was one called headstrong, but it dint crash the player. just in case, i renamed it to footstrong. refs=0 returns no results.

you said jemplode crashes but unrelated to that problem -- what type of exception is coming up, or does the app just cease to run?

i was thinking about this when i posted. i forget the exact error. something exception for sure. its a java box with a details button and an ok button that pops up while the splash screen is still up.
is there a list of possible exceptions, i might recognize it?
otherwise ill check at lunch.

could be a number of different things ... if you could send me the error message and stack trace to it, it would be helpful ...

What OS is this on? You may want to grab a more recent virtual machine from http://www.java.com ... Otherwise you need to

... uh hmmm sort of got cutoff in midsentence there ... Otherwise you need to download an older version of the Swing UI toolkit and put it in jEmplode's classpath. This is less than desirable for many reasons, though.

update

this is still causing me grief. with both emplode crashing when it displays the playlist on the screen, or tries to rather, and with jemplode hanging. jemplode no longer exceptions but it hangs at 'updating interface' at 100% cpu usage forever.
thinking about wiping the hdd's and starting over, unless someone can tell me how to remove the offending playlist.

ok, im doubting this, but is manually removing the playlist from the db used even an option? im not at all familiar with how the or where the db is stored.

also, im kind of confused as to why this hasnt generated much interest. to me, a playlist causing emplode to crash straight out is enoght to catch someones attention.

There are sort of two databases. There are a bunch of files representing the playlists stored along with the mp3s on the player under /empeg/fids0 and /empeg/fids1 these files are ultimately flattened into a binary database (the building database step when you sync). If you could figure out which fid file represented the playlist that is causing you problems you should be able to delete it by hand and then rebuild the binary database. The problem is the fids filenames are just numbers so you would have to figure out which numbered file you need to delete and I can't think of a good way to do that if emplode and jemplode are both crashing on you.

Hmmm, connecting with HyperTerminal (or similar) and grep'ing (probably need to upload a grep binary using sz/rz, don't recall if it's on the player by default, but doubt it) for the problematic name in the *1 fid files should be able to find it for you - assuming that the *1 files are storing the names as straight text (haven't had the need to look...)

i think ill try this tonight. ive been ripping alot of music lately, and its annoying not being able to upload it to my empeg. if i find this string (assuming its plain text) do i just delete the fid file that it was found in and resynch so it rebuilds the database?

Re: playlist title tag crashes emplode - 18/12/2003 23:06

I'd drop both the *1 file that was found and the related *0 file (the actual mp3 file)

That file looks perfectly fine -- it seems the problem is with the actual contents of 9150. Do you still have 9150?

9150 is 'Mercy' by 'K.M.F.D.M.' off their cd 'Symbols' which i know for a fact that i uploaded after i deleted 9151
