ID3 Tags and Sync

ID3 Tags and Sync - 10/08/2000 17:00

I've noticed that I have certain files that Emplode doesn't want to transfer. Here's what happens -

1. I Copy and Paste the file from Explorer to a playlist

2. Sync - The Sync proceeds normally, taking a normal amount of time to transfer the file, and completes without errors.

4. I expand the playlist tree to find the file that was just transferred, and it's not there. The branch of the playlist that is supposed to contain the new file is bold, as if there was a pending change.

5. If I resync, the bold text reverts to normal, and the file is still not there.

It seems to have something to do with the ID3 tag. In all 3 cases so far, retagging the file has fixed it. I can't decide if it has to do with the length of the field, the contents of the field (maybe a problem with a non-alphanumeric character?), or if the tag is corrupt. I haven't been able to reproduce it enough to tell for sure.

I'm running v1.0

Load up MP3Trim and have a look at the file with the program. MP3Trim has a little box that analyzes the frames and the tag and tells you if there's a problem with the file.

Also, does your tag have any extended characters in the fields or the file name which might cause it?

Either way, these things shouldn't make Emplode choke, so when you get to the bottom of what the problem is, let us know so we can avoid it as well.

After some troubleshooting - some of which was varying the length and contents of the ID3 tag fields, and some of which was playing around with MP3trim (Thanks Tony!) - it looks pretty much like parts of the files were corrupted. All 3 showed a missing first frame, and an incomplete last frame. After fixing this with mp3trim, everything worked fine.

Kind of puzzled about how this happened, though...

If you still have copies of the "bad" versions of the files, it might be worth it to send one of them to empeg so that they can analyze it and make sure it doesn't mess up Emplode like that.

This has also happened to me. I have not had time to analyze the files. It was entire dozen or so files from the same artist.
