Can't upload or modify playlists w 2.0b3 - 28/10/2001 11:52

I can't send any new tunes to the empeg, I can't create new playlists. I can't create a playlist and put a tune in it from another playlist to get it to stick and one of my playlists that has been on my empeg is gone, vanished!
Everytime I sync (on 2 different PCs over ethernet) I get sync errors (usually The length of playlist My Music (or whatever it may be) did not match the actual number of children detected.) and I get warnings at 'Retrieving player configuration'.
Then if I sync again I get a error connecting to player message at which time I have to unplug power from my empeg and close emplode. Error 0x80040015
Then I connect to the empeg I get the number of children error again.

Then I sync and everything works but none of my changes have been made.

I got new music and I can't listen to it...

I also tried to turn on the Hard Drive Icon... I got a sync error 0x8004003e. Closed emplode (with a ctrl-alt-delete) and powered off the player (which still had synchronising on the display (stopped, not moving) Powered up again and connected with emplode, changed the setting again and synced successfully. Only difference between the two attempts was that the first one I clicked on apply after checking th tick box for the hdd icon in emplode.

oh woe is me....

Keep in mind that if you're having trouble, downgrading is a perfectly acceptable thing to do.

Ok, now that I've downgraded and I am still getting sync errors (at stage 5) using emplode 1 and v 1.03 consumer what's my next step. I still can't get any songs on my player. I did find my missing playlist. All the songs were in the unattached items folder. Too bad I can't get them out. :(

Have you tried USB instead of ethernet?

Same sync error at Stage 5

You'll keep getting this after every reboot until emplode is able to rebuild your database. The player seems to be walking the entire contents each time you boot, and obviously isn't writing back to the disks. I had the same problem after one of my syncs aborted early.

Of course rebooting the PC and connecting up again allowed proper syncing right away.

No luck with rebooting. I can only sync when I don't make any changes.

Help!

I resat the running order using empeg co.'s instructions and still no good. I have went from Consumer to Developer without a hitch but still no luck making changes.

Your are getting hard disk errors. It sounds like a lose IDE cable or a bad disk.

Re: 1.03 woes... - 02/12/2001 09:58

You don't get HDD errors from a loose cable, generally.

Your HDD is upset. This *may* be sortable out (if it's an IBM disk) by hooking it to a PC and running IBM's DFT tool. If you're out of warranty, we still may be able to do something depending on the drive size - but you'd have to pay for carriage.

Re: 1.03 woes... - 03/12/2001 06:11

I believe it's a 12GB IBM disk. It was installed last January or Febuary. Unit was bought in August of 2000.
Cust #170

I have no way of hooking it up to a desktop machine but I do have a dell laptop that I can probably swap the hdd into to run the util if it's bootable off of a floppy.

I wrote [email protected] on Nov 30th, no reply yet. Should I email anybody directly or do you wish to email me?

Thanks!

P.S. The unit works fine... I went on a 4 hour drive on Saturday and never had a problem.

Re: 1.03 woes... - 03/12/2001 07:41

If I read your post correctly, you are saying you now have emplode 1 (1.0??) and empeg 1.03?? If you managed to install a 12GB drive, I assume you'd know to match the software between the empeg and emplode.. so it must have been a typo.

Re: 1.03 woes... - 03/12/2001 10:02

Yup, the software matched. I uninstalled Emplode 2 and installed Emplode 1 (.xx whatever) then upgraded (downgraded) the empeg to v 1.03.

Fully aware the V 2.0b3 requires Emplode v2 and vice versa.

Re: 1.03 woes... - 03/12/2001 11:36

What I meant was, a 1.03 empeg doesn't require "1.xx whatever" emplode. It requires 1.03 emplode.

Re: 1.03 woes... - 03/12/2001 12:03

That's what I had... sorry for not clarifying that point though. However it has been deemed to be a possible "hard drive going bad" problem.

Re: 1.03 woes... - 05/12/2001 08:41

Looks like the Hard Drive will be making a trip to IBM for a replacement. Good news is that there is a 3 year warranty on the hard drive.

Too bad it's so near Christmas and the only hard drives I can find are 810 megs :) Hey, is there a record for the smallest hard drive in an empeg??

I am hunting some more though but I will have to give in by Friday if I don't find anything... we got to have some Christmas music to listen to afterall!

Yeah, I've noticed on pricewatch.com that HD prices are going UP... supply must be tight.

Re: Can't upload or modify playlists w 2.0b3 - 06/12/2001 07:29

I tried 2.0b3 and was able to remove a bunch of songs but on the last(?) step of synching where it saves player configuration, it failed saying it timed out. This is USB.

Now, when I restart Emplode, it brings up the box to select the player but the box disappears and emplode freezes. This is Win2k. I have rebooted my PC, I have turned off the EMPEG, I have unplugged the USB cable.

So far I have not had any problems listening to the stuff still on there and I assume the stuff I deleted is actually deleted. I will try again at home and see how it goes.

I have not searched for similar problems on the forum but will. I just wanted to post this problem.

This particular problem is a cosmetic bug that is well known and will be fixed in the next release. It is unrelated to any other problems you may be having.

Re: Can't upload or modify playlists w 2.0b3 - 07/12/2001 09:53

Also, I added another step to the list, so that if an error occurs, it says "error X while restarting player", which is what it was actually doing in all of those cases.
