Visual Bug - 11/11/2001 14:44

I'm running the mlord's hijack + voladj v55 kernel on a Mark I (w/one drive), running on AC power, Spectrometer 128 + transient visual selected, voladj set to 'low'. It's been playing for 3+ hours when I noticed this. Attached is a pic. I tried using the remote to skip forward and backward a track to see if that cleared it up, but it didn't respond to the remote. Went and got the camera, took the pic, loaded the pic onto the computer, and noticed that it had cleared itself up. Has anyone else seen something like this?

This has happened a couple more times in the last few hours. Each time, it seems to last for a duration of 4 tunes, locks out the remote, and seems to clear itself up. Very strange. Haven't noticed anything else, yet.

Looks like it's complaining about the headers on the MP3 file (see text at bottom of screen).

1) Check out your copies of the files and see if they need repair. Links to relevant software are in the FAQ.

2) If the files play OK on other players, even if they do have some kind of error, save copies of the bad files anyway to send to the empeg guys so that they can make their new decoder work with them.

3) Is the player UI completely locked up requiring a reboot? If so, that's probably a bug for the empeg guys (having it lock up in info:transient like that).

4) Can you reproduce it without Mlord's kernel? You need to make sure that's not a factor.

Re: Visual Bug - 13/11/2001 04:32

1) The title of the tune I was listening to was 'I Could Have Lied - Red Hot Chili Peppers', so No, I don't believe it's complaining about bad headers.
2) The files have played just fine on XMMS, etc, and other versions of the player software, and has played correctly several times since this happened.
3) I didn't try the front panel buttons during all three instances I observed (it could have happened while I was in another room, as well).
4) Isn't it true that the player software does the nifty 'transient titles at the bottom' stuff? It's a little fuzzy on just how Mlord's work would interfere with that, but I suppose it's possible (Murphy's law and all).

In short, it was something which was unusual, and figured that I'd check to see if someone else had also seen this happen before I go and file an official bug report.

'I Could Have Lied - Red Hot Chili Peppers'

Heh, the cut-off tops of "Red Ho" looked like "Bad He". Oh well, that's what I get for not listening to the Chili Peppers.

I had this happen today also. 2.0b3 + hijack v55. I was Transient mode with the Hula Hoops visual on. The display looked pretty much like this, but with only 1 row of pixels on the bottom showing the track info. The Kenwood remote & front panel buttons were unresponsive but the player kept playing.

Well, I have been running an interim 2.0b5 player for a couple weeks now. I had it running constantly on a 20+hour drive this last weekend, and it never locked up once. So it's theoretically possible that this is a bug that's already been fixed.

Empeg guys, any chance of another release soon?
