Dissapearing Tuner

Dissapearing Tuner - 15/01/2002 15:01

On occasion I've had the tuner option dissapear entirely, can't get to it by remote, not in the menus, or anywhere. Can't cycle to it using the hijack press-and-hold either. A reboot clears it up. Using the b7 kernel + hijack.

Is your player forgetting it's in the car?

When it happens, does the "Sound" menu have a fader?

It doesn't reoccur often. When it does happen, I flip to the hijack menu and it verifies that it is in Car mode. Haven't checked for a fader.

Yeah if the fader and dimmer aren't in the sound/settings menus, you've got the old adaptor plug problem mentioned in the FAQ.

My Mk2a had this happen last week but it magically corrected itself. David @ Emepg says the leaf switches inside the adaptor plug sometimes stick. I haven't had it happen to my Mk2a yet this week so I hope it was a one time thing.

I actually had it happen permanently in my Mk2 and had to send it to be fixed.

I have had this one as well and what i think it is if you stick the player in the dash and then start the car if your timing is just right the plyer is not found as every time my tuner has turned invisible the battery sysmbol has been up from a car start.

Start car and then plug in player and see if it happens.

Yeah, I concur with your findings. Every time the tuner was gone the battery icon appeared.

Hmm. Maybe it's a side effect of the negative spike bug?

Hmm, this should be dealt with in the player. I think we might need some more testing. How is it with v1.03 and the battery icon?

When the display blanks (as happens just before the battery icon is displayed) the tuner is powered off & on. The player should be rescanning for it after display on, but this might be broken.

Just so you know, I can sometimes make it so my amp doesn't come on if I start my car during a reboot. Dunno if that's the amp's protect circuit cutting in or if it's the player. There are some strange situations where I can confuse the player with ignition on/off cycles.

I think I actually might have the negative spike bug, just not on ignition shutoff, it's on car-start.

If the display is on, the amp remote line is high. They're powered from the same line. Sounds like an amp issue if the display is on and the amp is off.

If you can replicate it, check the state of the amp remote wire at the amp power terminals.

I've never had the problem occur in 1.03. But given the flukey nature of this bug maybe it happened in 1.03 and I just didn't use the tuner that day.

I'm also seeing some similar behaviour -
It seems that when first inserted into the car, the empeg has no knowedge of the tuner & it won't respond to the Sony stick.
When this occurs Hijack says that the empeg is in DC/CAR mode. If I remove & reinsert the empeg, then everything seems to work ok. I have also had this occur whilst it was installed in the car, where the sony stick was working fine at the start of the journey.
I'm using v2b7 and Hijack v151.

I had major problems with this in 1.03. I even contacted Tech support & they were baffled. What would happen was that the tuner would work well for some amount of time (20-25 minutes) then all of a sudden the signal level would drop to nothing and there would be no reception. Turn off the player (or remove & reinsert) and then turn it on again and the tuner disappeared. Leave the unit powered off for some time and the tuner would then come back to life for a random amount of time.

I tried moving the wires on the harness etc but nothing seemed to work. Eventually it started working and continued to work flawlessly for several months, until the same thing happend several days ago with 2.0b7. Left it alone for a bit and then it's been working ever since.
