Mk2a (RioCar) + Tuner + Ethernet all at once?

Mk2a (RioCar) + Tuner + Ethernet all at once? - 25/01/2002 13:54

Okay, I'm peeved.

I have a Mk2 Empeg and a Mk2a RioCar, and a home docking station with a Rio Tuner module in it.

The Mk2 works flawlessly in this setup, but the RioCar Mk2a does not.

The problem is that the Ethernet stops working immediately after a SUCCESSFUL DHCP negotation.. it connects to my DHCP server, gets an IP address, and then stops sending/responding to any form of ethernet communications.

This happens whether in DC/Car mode or AC/Home mode.
It does NOT happen in either mode when the Tuner is disconnected.

Can anyone else set this up and confirm, or is it just my lucky unit (running beta7)??

Thanks

I've got the same setup and it works fine. Power is not through the sled, just using the sled to get the tuner working.

I have seen some very strange behavior with my MKIIa when connected to the sled connector with the tuner attached but power supplied from the home power jack.

The player won't reboot from emplode after a sync it just switches to the flashing LED, not standby as you can't wake it up.

Also the serial on the player won't give me a shell if I have the tuner connected.

Ethernet however seems to continue to work.

John fixed this particular problem (the player not exiting if the tuner is plugged in) the other day. It'll be FITNR.

Yeah, I see this happen a lot with beta7. You can still hit "control^C" to forcibly exit the player (instead of "q"), with no harm done. I think they may have this fixed for the next release.

Okay, I've rewired my dock to use the AC plug for power, and it still fails. The Mk2 works perfectly, the Mk2a loses ethernet just after successful DHCP negotations conclude.

So, I rearranged "the other end" -- plugging the dock into my other Hub (slightly newer LinkSys than the first one), and .. it works now.

Weird. Must be a slight difference in the ethernet implementation between Mk2 and Mk2a..
