Hi there,

I came across the Devolo adapters some time ago and I must say this rocks: an ethernet connection via your power sockets ! and much more reliable (sic) than the wireless Ethernet. This is exactly what I was looking for. my Central is placed very far from my telephone line.

Can anyone tell me whether there is a chance these Ethernet adapters could work with the Central and the receivers ? Devolo has made drivers for SuSE 9.0 / Debian 3.0 available on http://www.devolo.de/_en_/produkte/dlan/mldlanetheth_dn.html. Hw could I install them on the Central ? any chance this would work ?

thanks,
Miguel

The central does not have ethernet built-in, you must also use one of the supported USB-to-Ethernet adapters. The supported adapters are listed in its "About" menu.

So Central -> USB2ETHERNET adaptor -> dLAN Ethernet-> power_socket <- dLAN Ethernet <- Receiver should work just like that ?

Yes, that is the correct connection scheme. That's assuming the Receiver is compatible with the Dlan product... the Receiver is known for being picky about which ethernet hubs it'll work with.

Of course, just running an ordinary telephone wire between the two will work, since they both have HPNA. You sure it's not easier just to run a telephone wire?

HPNA is what I use now, but my telephone connection is quite far from the Central -- I currently have to use a 7m. long telephone cable, which is not very nice in the living; I would like to get rid of this. i thought HomePlug could be a nice way to do it.
