I just got my empeg mark 2a and got it all going. I had to set the time and day when I set it up, but it isnt displayed anywhere?? I am really going to miss my clock on my HU, but I guess I can live without it if it doesnt show up on the Empeg. Am I just missing something, or does the Empeg not display the clock anywhere? I think I have SW version 1.02, its the one that came installed factory from Sonic Blue. Thanks for any help!

The clock is shown in a number of ways in 2.0, which is currently in Beta. I'd postpone upgrading to it until it is a little more stable (which should be soon).

1.02 & 1.03 don't display the clock anywhere. The 2.0 betas do. If you want to see the clock you'll have to upgrade. I'd stick with what you've got for the moment though and wait until some more of the bugs have been ironed out of the beta (shouldn't be too long now). You might want to take a look at the player FAQ here.

edit: I knew someone would beat me to it.

How does the EMPEG keep the time? Does it have a CMOS battery or something?

It has a capacitor that is charged every time the unit is plugged in. I think Hugo says it lasts about 2 weeks with no power, and only a small bit to charge it.

If it dies, the Mark 2 basically reverts to the way the Mark 1 kept time. The clock only advances when it's on. (Thats how the Mark 1's can still use the "least recently played" shuffle mode).

If I am not mistaken, the MK2 can display the time if listening to the radio and the station broadcasts RDS with time. I could swear I saw my unit do that one night when not in my local area.

It will display the time in tuner mode. That is the RDS time not the EMPEG time.

I have found RDS time to be not very reliable. I am currious how this display of info works. It seams to be persistant even after the RDS reception stops. It continues to increment, but it quickly becomes hours off. Even at best, i wouldnt set my watch by it (around my city anyway).
