Lenses - 30/07/2002 04:44

For those that are interested I am going to start selling precut Gel color filters as soon as I can get a page up on the site that works right.

On a side note, it still looks like I'll have to EOL the colored lenses since sales are still running at practically nil.
So anyone that wants them better order them while you still can.

The link to the site is in my sig and in the links at the top of the page.

Would those be loose gels for combining with any other lense one has?

Pricing?

what are gels?

Re: Lenses - 31/07/2002 15:33

A film of colored plastic that can attach to a smoke or clear lens. If you've ordered a gel lens from Darkstorm, you'll notice that the color layer is separate from the lens itself.

Hi Steve,

I received my lenses today. They rock! Thank you for your excellent work.

For those that don't have any lenses from Steve, I highly recommend getting them while you can (unless you're after gels). From first glance, my favourites are Neon Red and Smoke.

Neon red is a very interesting lense... funky in an old skool kinda way. It makes your empeg look like one of those very old b&w CRT screens that have a phosphorus glow around the pixel edges. Plus the neon red outline reallys adds to the flavour. The Smoke lense is very elegant. I have a feeling this lense will be on my empeg the most.

For me, THE big plus about the smoke lens (not tried other Darkstorm lenses) is the VFD readability in high ambient light situations compared to the 'stock' lenses - the improvement is worth the money easily.

If I wanted to pretend to be an accountant I would say something like "that $20 lens allows me to view the display on my $1000 player approx. 20% more than I could before the upgrade".
Perhaps someone better than I could express this more scientifically (say) in cents per (useable) lumen?

Re: Lenses - 31/07/2002 18:07

well i got my smoke, light blue, and deep green lenses this week and i saw the gels but wasn't sure what they were. i guess thats why there are two pictures side by side for each gel on the website. one for smoke - the other for clear.

so how are they 'attached' to the smoke or clear lenses?

I think that the gels are just held in by the lens over it, if Im wrong somone please correct me

Hi Steve,

I still really want a smoke or clear lens with 4 colours, so can't wait for that option to appear on your site.

Bring it on:-)

No. When I attach them I use a Plexiglas welding solution on the edges of the lens. It works about as well as Super Glue on the Gel itself but is fantastic for Plexiglas. It is about the only thing I found that keeps it optically clear.
I was intending originally to coat the whole lens and attach the Gels but could not get it where there were absolutely no bubbles. Too bad though. The couple of experiments I tried looked perfect... except for the bubbles.

The Gels will be difficult to put in unless they are attached to the lens but I think users should be able to accomplish it by taping a couple of pieces of scotch tape on the two upper tabs of the lens that jut out over the handle hinge to the gels same tabs protrusions.

If I find some time after things stop crashing on me and I can figure out how to make the page, maybe I'll make up a simple instructions sheet on how to install them.

Lenses Web Page - 02/08/2002 04:37

I am having difficulty figuring out how to do the page still so I am going to start accepting orders through email (Not Postings).

Each Gel filter will be $5 with a minimum purchase of 4 colors + shipping.
I am going to stick with the same method of shipping since it has proven reliable. Which is $3.85 US and $5.50 International for any amount of Gel filters.

Payment will be same way as well through Paypal to [email protected].

Use the Gel Lens page to determine the colors you want.
The link to the site is in my sig at the bottom of this post and in the links at the top that says Lenses.

When ordering be sure to provide:
Color names exactly as they are on the page.
Correct shipping address.
And along with the minimum of 4 colors be sure to include the shipping cost ($3.85 or $5.50). I cannot stress this enough as there have been many people that order and forget the postage which just delays your order.

Also be sure to include your address and lens colors in the Paypal note space when you make payment.
