Funny mark on case - 02/08/2002 13:00

Hi,

I have this round brown mark on my player, and one on the other side at the same place:

It doesn't look as if it's heat from inside the player, it doesn't rub off and I don't *think* there are any screws in the sled at those places.

Any ideas?

It's on mine also. Think it might just a result of manufacturing.

I always persumed it was some sort of burn/scorch mark from a spot weld or the likes.
Anyone know whats on the inside at that point?

I believe it is just that. A spot weld. The tip on the spot welder is usually not spotlessly clean. As a result, there is a certain amount of discoloration when the impurities on the spot welder tip burn in contact with the metal to be welded.

BTW: Mine has the same mark, only darker.

Thanks for the replies! I guess I didn't examine the case closely enough when I got it, I think I was busy drooling over the lovely logos on the back...

Also, after use it had that "hot power supply" smell which concerned me a little...

Had it three months or so and love it to bits...

the old sand paper trick will result in your case looking shinny new, use the finest grade you can find or u will get a brushed aluminum look

As opposed to the brushed stainless steel look it has now?

I wouldn't do this without taking everything out of the case first, and rinsing it out well after..
