Laptop drive jumper source - 13/08/2002 11:02
Anyone have any idea where to get a laptop sized drive jumper? I've been having issues w/ my 2 drive empeg and I think it's because of my rigged up jumper (I couldnt' find a real one). In the meantime I'm down to a 1 drive system... anyone know of a place to get extras? The local Compusa, etc. didn't have any on the floor or in the repair desk.

Try
Digikey. They have the 2mm jumpers you need. Search for part number "A26244"

Now I'm not condoning this, but... I stripped the plastic off a large jumper and using a small table-mounted vice, I squeezed the jumper by about 0.5 mm. I could then put the jumper on the drive snugly and secured it with a really tiny blob of silicone sealant. It's performed perfectly for three months. I checked it recently and it hasn't budged a nanometre.
The only reason I did this was because it was 2230, I had an empeg in pieces, I had to go out and couldn't bear a silent car!

I did something similar when I got my extra drive, I took a typical stranded 16g wire, pulled out one strand and threaded it figure 8 around the two terminals. Well, after about 3 months the empeg would occasionally pull up the "no hard disk support found, contact support" for just an instant when the "Risky Business" Penguin would zoom by. It would stick on the logo screen (Jeep in my case).
Pulling out either other drives from the drives from the cable would make it work normally (except for missing songs/playlists). It could be something else, but that was the most logical point to check. Just seeing where the easiest place to get an extra might be since my Jerry-rig didn't work.
