If long presses aren't supported, then why does holding FF or FW, etc. work fine? Is that just a repeated code, or what?

Long presses ARE supported for those buttons only (ff/rew vol+/-).

It's a limitation of the actual remote. For the Rio remote, we specified long-press availability on all buttons.
