lost button - 13/01/2003 18:59

I recently was having some trouble with one of my two drives, and while I was trying to get it all sorted out, I used my empeg for about a week or so without the face on it. This made it easier to take apart and work on it at nights, but still let me use it in the car during the day since I have an hour commute to work each way and it would have been a really long drive with no music. I just went to put the face back on and the left button is missing. I had the buttons in a pile on my desk with the face and dont know where it could have gone. I have searched everywhere for it and cant find it. Does anyone who has done the led button mod have their old buttons that the could sell or give to me? I just need the leftmost button, the one that goes to the previous track. Thanks

Have you tried emailing Rob S.? Obviously I can't speak for him, but it's possible that they have spares.

You should be able to get some from support, I did a while back.

Has anybody had trouble with the buttons not fitting right?

I recently installed the darkstorm smoke lens I got for my new empeg, and when I put the front piece back on, the right button got stuck. I had to leave the cover pretty loose, and even then it would get stuck sometimes. This morning I used some sandpaper around the button and fixed the problem. Then, the bottom button had problems! I just left the bottom left screw slightly loose and it's fine. Still, kinda strange.

I attribute to the fact it's a MKII (not MKIIa) #243 and all the bugs hadn't been worked out of the molds yet.

I guess it's my first hardware hack! Now I gotta install another disk and hijack it. Work and installing the amp/speakers/sub in my car so I can listen to it got in the way of hacking on it...

Your sticking button is common, but it is not because of the lens. Before you snug the face down you can move around a little to find a spot where they don't stick. Also look here

I disagree. I've opened (and, obviously, closed) my empeg many times, and none of those times did I have a problem with stuck buttons before I started using a DarkStorm lens about a month ago. I'm guessing that DarkStorm's plastic is a hair thinner or thicker than the stock lenses and causes some minor problems.

Re: lost button - 14/01/2003 07:28

But I have 5 different lenses and I find buttons can be sticky with all of them (1 empeg and 4 darkstorm) so every time I change I need to tweak the 2 nuts (ba-doom) on the left side to prevent this.

It could well be that some are a thicker plastic, but as it is a known issue even with stock lenses, I wouldn't bother pinning it on the lens. I would just adjust the fit until all is well again.

Like I said, I've never had problems except with my DarkStorm lenses, despite removing the fascia quite a bit. YMMV.

I've occasionally had to tweak the location of the lens to prevent the buttons from sticking. This is with a stock blue lens on a stock mk2a.

Again, that's not my experience, which means that it might not be klaruz's experience, either.

So, klaruz, yes. I have experienced the same thing, even if other people have not.
