man, that really sucks. I'm sorry to hear it. I bet the pooch will be cowering for a few days.

i'm not sure about the buttons working. I'd have thought they'd work too.... anyone?

go get jemplode and you can watch the display through that

If It's *just* the nipple, it should continure to operate as normal. All the buttons should be working. If it doesn't do anything when you plug it in at the moment it is probably rebuilding the database. give it some time and see what happens. You should still be able to hook it up to (j)emplode and re-sync to solve this. (here's a tip; if you connect it up to your stereo and turn it up really loud, it'll rebuild faster)
infact, if you've got hijack installed, browse it and you should see what the display is _supposed_ to be doing. dang, you beat me thinfourth2!

I believe you can, if you're game, solder a new display in yourself. It's not for the feint hearted nor ill equiped.

It's possible the nipple isn't broken, but that the shock (whilst the player was still on) caused a board to flex and shorted something momentarily, blowing one of the display board fuses.

This might well affect button operation too.

It's worth checking the fuses - details are in the FAQ.

Re: out on a limb - 24/01/2003 16:07

after getting over the initial waves of depression i plugged it in and watched the serial out. it loads up fine
only the normal errors. while im waiting for details from support as to what to do i gave my friend use of the hard drive tray i had in mine as its larger and has more songs than his did. so i cant try it out again to see if the buttons are in fact working. and yeah, it was prolly rebuilding database as thats what it did when we hooked up his vfd to my board. are the fuses on the mobo or on the vfd board? if the former than my fuses are fine.

Motherboard.

It sounds like you just need a new VFD.
