Learned from the best.

I was surprised I beat you to it. Were you recharging your batteries, or something?

Oh, and while on the subject of the Battery Icon, note what that FAQ entry says about wiring, and note the other thread here where we discuss confusion regarding the wiring-up of this particular player.

HMMMMMMMM.

Well, they're not "batteries" in your primitive 21-century sense of the word. But something like that.

Which color is the permanent power wire? Doing a search on "wiring" and "color" didn't show anything. Of course, I could dig through my cabinet and look for the RioCar manual.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't beta 13 have a known bug where the battery icon always shows up coming out of standy?

Not to my knowledge, I never get that. I think others have reported something like that, but I don't know if it was a software bug or not. I don't think we ever got to the bottom of that one.

Mine only started apearing all the time after one of the HiJack versions - and some others reported the same thing. Mark didn't seem too concerned about it because it didn't look like a software bug to him. I guess I've gotten used to it.

Yeah might be a bug or something as i am getting sick of pulling out the muti meter to measure the damn alternator as i trust the empeg more the car dash as it told me when the last cars electircs died

I know my battery if faulty/old. The battery icon comes on, but only after the system has gone temporarily into standby from low voltage. I must do something about it. It's now doing it while waiting in traffic with the engine idling for a while at low revs.
Maybe I need Two batteries, but my system isn't that big. I think the alternator's too small and I cant afford a new one

That sounds like a bad alternator not putting out enough juice. Eventually you will have to buy both alternator and battery if you run the battery down too far. I can sympathize though. I'm on my third alternator, and still have charging issues.

If anyone can help me out, my symptoms are 13 volts constant when the headlights are on, 13 with them off, but <12 when off and I rev the engine or put load on the truck (IE, go up hill, passing breeze, etc..). Once it goes below 12, it stays there until I turn the lights on, and then let off the accellerator.

I've resigned myself to running with my lights on all the time. Mechanic says it's just fine (new factory alternator, new battery). Oh yea.. 1997 Isuzu Rodeo, 60K miles.

Sounds like a voltage regulator problem, or a wiring/grounding problem somewhere in the system....

This does sound like a voltage regulation problem. I think you might want to check your ground connection to your alternator.

The alternator contains the voltage regulator, so I think I'll figure out where the connector for the ground actually goes and check there.

I see the battery icon when I restart my car after getting gas.

My stock CD player would lose power long enough during the ignition process that it'd have to re-spin the CD and take a few seconds to pick up where it left off. The empeg just pauses for a second (blank screen and silence) then picks up in about 2 seconds with the battery icon showing briefly. I'm impressed that it doesn't reboot.

**TRY THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK** I was having problems with the battery icon coming on and then the empeg shutting off. I asked around and got some advise to run the power wire off of my fuse box. I decided to try it and ran it from the heater fuse. The problem was that the oem wire wasn't thick enough to carry enough power to supply both my sony player and the empeg. This *may* work for you.

What I meant to imply in my last post is that for me, the battery icon seems appropriate. While starting the car, it's expected that you lose power to accessories.

Yeah that was for muzza and anyone else having problems with the battery icon... just something to try. Most cars do loose power when you start the car.
