Over the next couple of days I play to move the BBS

Well if you can see this then it looks like the server
move worked!

Any problems with the new server please report via
the email link at the bottom.

I'm glad you noticed the diffrence. It was a bit
sad that the old server had less power than my car
stereo .

Really incredible speed!

Yes I do. I suppose once I've saved up enough for
my new Mk2 then I could always run this server off
of the old one

Nah, better to use the Mk 2 as the server...
Would be much easier with the ethernet port... =)

??? Aren't you a member of the empeg company? Don't you get a special price then? Or did I misunderstand something?

Nope I'm just a sad demented fan - hence the Unofficial
part of the name.

Re: Important - BBS Upgrades - 05/06/2000 07:31

Did you notice more registrations in the BBS in the last months? I can't remember the number of registered users about 4-6 months ago. I think it would be interesting. I think the number of registered persons also shows something like a count of really empeg interested persons.
(if this are only around 650 it's not too good for the empeg company. Hopefully there will be more persons ordering a Mk2)
The guys@empeg should earn some money for their great work!

...Glad the changeover was so quick and painless:) I saw the "server will be down" message at the same time that I read everything was done:)

Out of curiosity, what is the new hardware?

I just wanted to chime in here and give PaulH three cheers for taking such good care of us and this BBS. The new server is definitely a lot quicker, and I'm really happy with the new software.

Problem with summary - 05/06/2000 22:07

This morning I noticed that I didn't get a summary of the postings (like I usual get). I think that's a problem of the new BBS

Could you take a look, PaulH?

I suspect I forgot the cron job to do these - I'll take
a look today and get the digests sent out.

New Hardware is a homebuild Celeron 300 overclocked
to 450meg - 128Meg Ram. Running Linux 2.2.x.

This is compared to the old P75 with 32Meg.

You gotta love overclocking them 300a's to 450. My home machine is the same thing, and it's been running like a champ for over a year that way. It's the most stable system I've owned. Talk about a bargain. Even the salesman who sold me the chip knew I was buying a 300a just to OC the thing. Amazing what you can do with one tiny little piece of tape on pin B21...

If you have any 300->450 OC'd systems running Windows, I've got a great startup screen for ya.

Piece of tape??
Pah, my motherboard doesn't care about bits of tape, it allows me to OC it anyway... =)

I got your startup and shutdown screens a while a go, freaked my mate out, 'cause he thought the computer had overheated... =)

Guess I'll have to keep running my 366 at 525...

My home computer's been a dual celeron 366s at 550 for the last 10 months or so.. I haven't had any problems with it, other then noise from my fans:)

Pah, my motherboard doesn't care about bits of tape, it allows me to OC it anyway...

Mine was supposed to, but it wouldn't allow me to adjust the FSB speed independently of the clock speed, so I had to settle for the tape. It was funny, I spent a few days fiddling with the motherboard settings, afraid to do the B21 tape, thinking that the tape was a dangerous last-ditch effort. Actually, it was amazing how when I finally caved in and said, "what the hell, I'll try the tape", everything suddenly started working magically. I wonder if the Intel engineers kicked themselves for allowing the design to be hacked so easily?

For those who are reading this and don't know what the hell we're talking about (I've already received one private e-mail asking about the B21 tape), click here for the quintessential article on the subject at Tom's Hardware. This article is the one everyone referred back to when overclocking their celeron 300a's.

Too cool. I love it. Glad you liked the screens. I was pretty proud of how I used the color-cycling to make the chip glow.
