#1 Choice
5,6 and 7

After we decide on the date then I will take a poll on where it will be held this year.

Re: Cincinnati Meet - Vote for the date - 20/04/2003 17:06

The 21st Annual Saab Owner's Convention is the first weekend of September. Other than that, I'm good. I voted for the 19, 20, and 21st because that date had the most votes at the time.

bump. Have you decided on a date Laura?

Re: Cincinnati Meet - Vote for the date - 05/05/2003 19:22

My compadres and I in South Carolina are hoping to reunite at the meet since I'm moving to Oklahoma. Plus this year I'm available for geocaching.

Re: Cincinnati Meet - Vote for the date - 05/05/2003 19:45

Um, sorry. I have been so busy with the remodeling going on in my house and all the running around to find what I needed that I kind of forgot all about the meet. In a few weeks it will all be over with and things will get back to normal so then I'll be able to devote the time I need to make the plans.

I leave for Oklahoma on Friday (that's where I'm from). I'll be living in a small town called Ada for a while and then later in one of several larger cities. I haven't decided which yet.

Ah. Didn't know you came from there originally, and it just seemed to be a rather random destination point. Good luck with the move!

Wondering if there will be anybody at the Cinci meet that could do the dimmer fix on my Empeg? I'm tired of my dimmer going wacky on me each time I get into the car.

Sept 19-21 is bad for me. I'll be stuck in Pittsburgh. Its for my cousin's wedding, so I can't really get out of that. Kind of a shame since Pittsburgh is about half way to Cinci for me.

Ada, isn't that where Mickey Mantle was from? Or some big baseball star... I know my childhood hero Johnny Bench was from OKC, so those Okies can't be all that bad...

How many would be able to come the 26th - 28th?

(who is getting damn sick of painting)

(edited because I'm so high on paint fumes that I can't read a calendar correctly)

(edited again because I can't spell either at the moment.)

Re: Cincinnati Meet - Vote for the date - 15/05/2003 10:46

I'll be able to come on that weekend.

Probably adding on a trip to the Red (River Gorge) before or after, in case anyone is interested.

Re: Cincinnati Meet - Vote for the date - 15/05/2003 11:23

That date should be fine if I can afford to make it. If I come, my wife will be with me.

I'll be there

Re: Cincinnati Meet - Vote for the date - 15/05/2003 12:02

I know of no reason I can't, which either means one will crop up, or I'll be there. Perhaps the household's other empeg user will decide to come.

Re: Cincinnati Meet - Vote for the date - 15/05/2003 17:53

Excellent, I like those dates. I'll be there.

I'm 0 for 3 for my planned activities for the month. Couldn't make it to NY meet because I had to work at the last minute. White water rafting trip cancelled last weekend due to flooding and high water. And I'm missing the TT meet this weekend because my TT has some as-yet-to-be-determined problem that appeared yesterday evening. So, I'm a bit perturbed.

With that said, I look forward to being there in September!

Re: Cincinnati Meet - Vote for the date - 16/05/2003 07:34

So is the date final on Sept 26th-28th?

Any idea what the plans are going to be yet?
Posted by: Laura

Re: Cincinnati Meet - Vote for the date - 16/05/2003 16:48

Nope and nope. I still have to check on availability and location and plan events. I'll start doing that next week when I have the time to concentrate.

Re: Cincinnati Meet - Vote for the date - 22/05/2003 09:06

Bump.

I just had something come up for the weekend of the 26th-28th. I will not be able to make it that weekend. If it is possible to avoid that weekend that would be great.

Re: Cincinnati Meet - Vote for the date - 22/05/2003 13:22

I think a lot of people signed up for the date listed simply because it had the most votes... which is surely nice and polite however it skews the voting. May a suggest a second poll with an any above choice?

Russ went to USC... he's a little slow.
Posted by: robricc

Re: Cincinnati Meet - Vote for the date - 22/05/2003 13:43

I just realized that I do care. I can do any of those weeks with exception of the 5th, 6th, and 7th. We should make another option.... "Don't care. Just don't make it the 5th, 6th, & 7th so Rob can come"
Posted by: russmeister

Re: Cincinnati Meet - Vote for the date - 22/05/2003 13:44

We don't care about the "don't cares", do we?

Russ went to USC... he's a little slow.

Back off the education, man. I live in the south without a say in my geographical location.

Re: Cincinnati Meet - Vote for the date - 22/05/2003 13:45

We don't care about the "don't cares", do we?
I think that was the main point of having the 2nd poll. So people that are flexible can vote for "Don't care" so they don't screw up the numbers for the real dates.

Re: Cincinnati Meet - Vote for the date - 22/05/2003 16:46

I'm confused now with all of these polls

I'm still too busy right now to start planning anything so you guys decide on the date for me. I agree against the first weekend in September but it seems that no matter what weekend it is, someone won't be able to attend.

Re: Cincinnati Meet - Vote for the date - 22/05/2003 19:24

I don't think I have any conflicts, but that is still a few months away. I just moved to Springfield, MO, and am driving with the wife-to-be to Cedar Point in Sandusky for the honeymoon. It's about 12 hours, by Yahoo's reconing, so if we're driving that, I can probably drive in for the empeg meet.
At least I can listen to audiobooks on the drive!

*bump*

The 26th-28th is looking better for me now. The other weekends are getting a little booked. Laura, I think that you have to give the final word on the date, since nobody else can decide.
Posted by: russmeister

Re: Cincinnati Meet - Vote for the date - 09/06/2003 11:29

I really would like to attend this meet this year as I had to miss it last year. There is no way I can make it the 26th-28th so if that weekend can be avoided, that would be great.

Mark, is that pretty much the only weekend you can make it?
Posted by: cushman

Re: Cincinnati Meet - Vote for the date - 09/06/2003 13:06

Sorry, I didn't see that you could definately NOT make it the last weekend in Sep.

People who cannot make it for the 5th-7th: robricc
People who cannot make it for the 12th-14th: Cushman
People who cannot make it for the 19th-21st: BleachLPB
People who cannot make it for the 26th-28th: Russmeister, robricc

I think we should do it this way (negative elimination) rather than voting. Anyone replying to this post, add your name on the appropriate line. The line with the least amount of names on it is the date we'll have the meet. Why don't we have a cutoff date as to when the date will be decided? July 1st would be a good day to decide when the meet will be, that gives plenty of time to plan afterwards.

I can make it the 26th-28th. I have a conflict, but I would go to the empeg meet if it ended up being that weekend.

Re: Cincinnati Meet - Vote for the date - 09/06/2003 13:27

That's why I put your name down there.

If there was a date that came out even on people who could not come, and you had a conflict on one of those dates, then we would pick the other one. The date that is the most convenient for the majority.

Re: Cincinnati Meet - Vote for the date - 09/06/2003 15:40

For some reason I have just been putting this off not sure about having it this year or not, sorry guys. I'm still on the fence but I'll go ahead with it anyway. I better call the park tomorrow and see if any cabins are left for any weekends in September. This year I'll need payment in advance since last year cost quite a bit even after everyone chipped in more than their share.
Posted by: russmeister

Re: Cincinnati Meet - Vote for the date - 09/06/2003 16:01

I'll be more than happy to pay well in advance, Laura. I know how much time, money, and effort you put into this meet last year and I was really disappointed I wasn't able to go. You can count me in as paid in advance.
Posted by: Laura

Re: Cincinnati Meet - Vote for the date - 09/06/2003 16:03

I'm on the phone now and things aren't looking good for any weekend in September or October for the cabins. I'll let you know.
Posted by: Laura

Re: Cincinnati Meet - Vote for the date - 09/06/2003 16:18

How would people feel about a different park with not quite as nice cabins (meaning no TV and I'm not sure about phones) but it would be cheaper and they have 5 of them. It would be Whitewater Memorial Park next to Brookville Lake. I haven't been there to check them out yet.
Posted by: robricc

Re: Cincinnati Meet - Vote for the date - 09/06/2003 16:35

...and I'm not sure about phones...
Having wireless internet access in the woods last year was cool. Not necessary though.

Re: Cincinnati Meet - Vote for the date - 09/06/2003 16:45

if there is nothing available near Cinci, there are TONS of cabins in the Hocking Hills region of Ohio. A lot of them are privately owned, but are very nice, and there is a lot of stuff to do in that area. It's kind of rural, though.

http://www.hockinghills.com/ is one of the portals for the area.

My stepbrother was a ranger there many years ago when he was alive. I've never been there but I like the title "Hot Tub capital of the mid-west".

I give up holding, I'll call the lady that helped me last year tomorrow but I don't have much hope.

Hot tubs are good, with a liberal enough mixed crowd that is.

Re: Cincinnati Meet - Vote for the date - 10/06/2003 14:41

Woohoo!! I was able to get us some cabins for the weekend of September 19-21. I'm sorry that some won't be able to attend that weekend but there wasn't any weekend that everyone could come and this date had the most cabins available. I got us the last 3 family cabins (159 a night) and also 3 couple cabins (135 a night) at Hueston Woods where we held it last year.

We'll figure out who gets what when I get Tom to do us a sign up sheet and I'll need payment 2 weeks before the meet date. I'm thinking 3 to 4 people per cabin unless we need to cram more in. I'll also figure out activities and other things soon.

I was going to say I really want to go rock climbing this year, that was before I saw the beginning of Vertical Limit tonight at the gym. After seeing the dad hit the ground, along with 2 other guys, I'm not so sure now
Posted by: cushman

Re: Cincinnati Meet - Vote for the date - 10/06/2003 18:02

Yeah, it's always like that when we go climbing, too. Every moment is a thrill ride on the knife's edge of death. One thing to bring if you do decide to come is extra pants, because you'll probably need them after all the near-death experiences

In fact, My friend and I made a t-shirt about the required equipment needed for climbing.

Re: Cincinnati Meet - Vote for the date - 10/06/2003 18:07

Is there going to be a rock climbing trip planned for Monday after the meet?
Posted by: cushman

Re: Cincinnati Meet - Vote for the date - 10/06/2003 18:13

Sure, what time is the meet over on Sunday? It takes about 2 hours to drive to the Red, so if a group of us leave Sunday night, we could camp at Miguel's Sunday night, climb Monday and probably Tuesday, and be on the road Tuesday night or possibly even Wed. There is a lot of other things to do at the Red other than climbing, too (hiking, sightseeing, horseback riding) so if people did not want to climb for multiple days, they could do other things. The Red has several natural rock arches, and quite a few cool hiking trails.
Posted by: mlord

Re: Cincinnati Meet - Vote for the date - 10/06/2003 18:13

Yup, that's climbing all right. Continuous intense activity from sunrise to sunset, with barely a pause to pi.. err.. enjoy the scenery .

Actually, it's really much more like the "long hours of intense boredom (belaying), punctuated by brief moments of intense excitement".

Cheers
Posted by: cushman

Re: Cincinnati Meet - Vote for the date - 10/06/2003 18:18

Right on. And you don't even know how boring it can be until you sit at an uncomfortable belay for 3 or more hours waiting for the other two people in your party to finish the next two pitches above you because there isn't any room for you at the next belay. At the Red, there is a lot of hiking before you can even start climbing, too.

Pictures of the Red here, here, and here.

Might I recommend generalizing it a bit. Perhaps an "Empeg World Tour" T-shirt, with various meets and dates on it. Certainly less manufacturing costs and it would reduce duplicated effort.
