This mp3.com news article looks really interesting! Some more info can be found at this site. The thingy features a hard disk, just like the empeg!

looks like vaporware.. and 10$/hour of playback = about 800$ for that unit.. Their web site doesn't even work, with the forms returning errors... i'll stick w/ the empeg...

Yes, the web site is pathetic. If its quality is any indication of the quality of the product, then they will be in trouble.
However, the Yahoo! article says it's going to be presented at the comdex. And as the empeg folks will be there as well (showing off their T-shirts ;-)), maybe they should just go over and have a look at it - if only to check if it's real or vaporware.

33Mhz XC56309PV80 (24-bit DSP) processor, in a product that would cost (if it were available) almost as much as the empeg car. Hmmm.

From the look of their web site, it seems that they have produced a reference design. They licenced a bunch of kit, bolted it together and made a few prototypes (the nice mouldings appear to be faked up). The question is, will anyone licence a walkman that retails at $800?
