Empeg @ the office.

Empeg @ the office. - 10/02/2004 15:46

I'm a little bored so I thought I'd start this thread.
I was just curious as to how many of you listen to their empeg/Rios at work and where/how they display theirs.
Here is a shot of mine at the office. It sits just behind me and gets lots of attention from all who come into the office.

If and when Mark puts out more docking stations I will most definitely have to get one.
The in-box tray looks ok but my baby deserves better.

Out of all the things there on that desk, the empeg gets lots of attention?

Right now my dock is undergoing a face lift (getting painted black). It sits in the corner of my desk and I control it with Tony's Face program.

I know it would not seem that way
I usually have the visuals on which almost always catches thier eye. One of the things I do here is make Photo ID/access cards. The camera is just to the left of that shot so it's hard to miss. Most think it's XM.

Here is a wider shot.

Trust me, once you leave from visiting Adobe whether you are a family member, client, event attendee or coming in off the street to use the restroom, that logo is burned onto the retnas of your eyes. That logo is everywhere here on the first and second floors of all three towers.

Come to think of it, you can't escape from it even on the working floors! AAAAAHHHHHH!!!

I'm lucky enough to live a block from where I work, so I walk every morning and my empeg stays home.

Here's a closeup of it:

Click here to get a bigger view.

My buddy Matt (who was my roommate for 5 or so years) made this for me for my wedding present. It's a kind of college collage. Pretty much every thing we did in school is up on my wall. The case is not a briefcase, it's wood covered with contact paper which he used to laminate the images onto it. I was the only EE in our house, so he made it electronics heavy.

Might be one of those old school ergonomic Microsoft keyboards. It had a split in the middle, just like this one, with a little dial to adjust. You could fold the entire thing in half, or split it in half, if you wanted. A friend of mine has one that he swears by. It's perfect for putting a CD player under.

What's up with the keyboard? I've never seen one sit quite like that before.
It's a Goldtouch keyboard. I LOVE this thing. I was having some pretty severe wrist pains a couple years back and i became the squeeky wheel until i got this put on my desk, and a week or so later, no more wrist pain. It's fully adjustable so it can go all the way flat and together or close to 60 degrees slanted. This thing in combo with my old school SGI 3 button mouse, and i'm stress injury free. =]. Now if i could just source a box of these SGI mice... you can't find good three button non scroll wheel mice in this form factor anywhere. This is my third one (the buttons on the other two died) and once this one goes i'm going to have to swap out the microswitches. =]

Depends. The Octane in the first pic (the one with the bloo LED) is my main everyday system. The o2 is being rebuilt for a webserver, while the other Octane is sort of in limbo.

But mostly I just use 'em to embarass the Dell.

The empeg lives in that big, black thing, it's that big because it contains an amp, PSU, X10 switches to power the empeg and trigger its accessory line, and more stuff to switch the input between the computers and the empeg and the output between several rooms.

I was just curious as to how many of you listen to their empeg/Rios at work and where/how they display theirs.

The work that I do is exceptionally detailed (lots of interacting transactions) and requires intense organization. I couldn't survive in a messy environment so here is what my desk looks like.

Try [ img ] url w. http:// in it [ / img] (remove the spaces)

I see you're a fan of the Ford GT!

EDIT: Actually, you did it right, you just have a typo... the url should be http://empeg.comms.net/files/204901-1.jpg and you accidentally put http://empeg.comms.net/files/204901/1.jpg

The foolproof way to add a picture to a post (if you're in IE):

1. Attach it as you would do normally.
2. Go back to your post.
3. Right click on the 'Attachment' link and hit 'Properties'. Copy all of the text from the 'Address' field into the clipboard.
4. Back at your post, hit Edit.
5. Put the following text: [ image ] [ /image ] (without any spaces) in your text, and paste the link in between the two tags.
6. Uncheck the 'mark as edited' box.
7. Save changes.

So, lemme get this straight. You work for four different Clear Channel-owned stations and you bring your empeg to work to listen to music?

Yeah, that sounds about right.

Re: Empeg @ the office. - 21/02/2004 10:47

He also had "www." in front of "empeg.comms.net".

A slightly quicker shortcut to Roger's method is to right-click on the "attachment" field and select "Copy link location" and then paste it between the <image> tags.

"Copy link location"

"Copy Shortcut" on my version of IE, but yeah...

Well... Clear Channel doesn't seem to play a lot of Mozart nor are they big on audio books.

They seem more interested in contemporary nois... uh, music, and Mozart hasn't put out anything new in ages.

OK, you asked for it...

Here is my home office complete with office assistant.

The "Plastic Shine" bottle is for cleaning/polishing CDs before ripping them. Seems to work very well -- EAC rarely shows any re-read attempts. Printer is Kyocera (1/4 cent per page for consumables); scanner is an old HP IIcx ScanJet, hugely better than the cheap <$200 USB "throwaway" scanners you see today. (It'll scan an 8x10 color photo in about 10--12 seconds.)

Re: Empeg @ the office. - 10/03/2004 14:20

The post about the science toys site gave me the idea to post stereogram pictures of my office. These are the cross-eyed versions since I can't diverge my eyes on command.

First of three attached, the empeg and the Karma are on the left.

Second pic, various clutter on my desk, including an ADSL modem that crashes intermittently, which was kindly replaced with an extra from one of the BBS members here.

Last picture, this looks from my office through the window into the server room.

Well it's about time!

Funny, I was looking at that section also but dismissed it because I can never seem to bring everything into focus once I've achieved to line up the images.

Re: Empeg @ the office. - 10/03/2004 14:57

Those are super-cool, Tony. The mismatch in the monitor scan in the first one was weird. I liked the long depth through the window to the outside. Interesting moire clash happening on the speaker in the second. And I love the third -- Dilbert "floating" there and the shadow behind the rack. Lots of depth, too. Couldn't focus on the blinds rod, though; probably too close to the edge of the frame.

Oh, and thanks for the cross-eye ones. I can't do the diverge thing, either, and am usually lefy out of this stuff.

Re: Empeg @ the office. - 10/03/2004 15:23

Yeah, as I was shooting the pics, I thought to myself "the monitor scan mismatch is going to look interesting". And I also have trouble focusing on the blind rod, not sure why.

And Skunky: It takes practice to focus on the things, but my first suggestion is to sit far, far away from the monitor so that the image is just a small square in your field of view.

The origami is cool, is it a set or to you download the instructions?

Re: Empeg @ the office. - 23/03/2004 15:37

It promised to be cool. It was a day-by-day calendar where each day's page is the next day's paper. So far, though, the instructions have been pretty lousy. And there are way too many days of: "Take yesterday's thing and do it again and this time draw some stuff on it. It'll be a party favor." Super. In fact, if you go over to my gallery and look at the Random Stuff gallery, I've taken pictures of the one so far I've been totally unable to reproduce. Step 8 should be captioned "magic happens". See if you can figure it out.
