Wildcard Searching w/ Remote?

Wildcard Searching w/ Remote? - 15/10/2004 12:10

I looked through the FAQ’s and posts but I could not find how to wildcard search using the remote. Say I want to find a song with “Christmas” in it, like “Merry Christmas” or “Jewish Christmas”.. whatever. How can I do this?

I know my MKIIa can do everything I just need the knowledge.

thanks

That you can't. You can only search for the start of the string. See this FAQ. The empeg will (optionally) discard leadin articles like The, La, etc though.

I was afraid that would be the answer but was thinking positive.

OK one for the wish list then – While in the search mode you can hold the “whatever” key down an “*” wildcard appears and can be used to represent any number of characters. If you hold the “other whatever” key a “?” appears and represents one wildcard character.

Would this be hard, easy or impossible to code?

If easy I might try, I could not handle anything but easy.

It might be easy, but it's impossible to modify the player's software in that way.

I think a better idea would be to just do substring searches all the time anyway. Maybe favor ones that start with the pattern in the reported list, though.

It's probably easy to modify the code, here's how:

Get a job at Empeg LTD
Gain access to the source code
Write the change for wildcard searching
Gain permission to release modified player version with your changes
Release new player alpha with wildcard searching.

Simple.

OK I'll get right on that. Maybe in the interim one of the nice v3 coders would consider it as a suggestion.
