Stolen EMPEG - please help with receipt... - 22/10/2004 09:11

Hi, I just had my EMPEG MK2 stolen last night, and Iīm having problems finding my receipt, actually the EMPEG is all that is missing.

Do you have one of the original 10Gb receipts from when the player cost approx 1000-1400$, which you could scan and email me?
I donīt remember whether the receipts had serial numbers on them?

Just email to: morten (at) seeberg (dot) dk

I have reported the SN stolen both here, and as the FAQ says and on the registry.

Is that the empeg cage hanging down there? From the looks of it, the thieves don't know what they've got -- the cage is (arguably) worth just as much as the empeg itself.

This suggests that they might have dumped it once they realised -- check out local dumpsters and pawn shops.

And, just to warn others. Don't leave your empeg in your car.

Also, you may check the Goodwill & Salvation Army (US) dropoff boxes...It's a long shot, but a reformed car audio thief gave an interview that said he and his buddy would just hit up a bunch of cars and not be particular, then they would drive over to a dropoff box and dump what they couldn't figure out. Like I said a long shot, but....

Aye, a lot of damage for a pull out stereo. Makes me wonder if the culprit knew what it was, but got surprised before he could finish with the sled.

Wow, those links seem really helpful to anyone who has to face their insurance company after a thieft.

I'm sorry to hear about (and see) your loss. Man, car thieves are just ruthless...

Might be worth noting that if your empeg is stolen for your house you might not be covered as it's a car accessory. I know my spare wasn't covered by my house or my car insurance... My house insurance had a specific clause against it.

The EMPEG was locked in the glove-compartment (which is why it is insured by my insurance company).

The car also had a Pioneer DVD/TFT player in it, which has also bolted to the car. Thatīs why they left such a mess, the harder you make it for them to steal, the more of a mess they make...

They apparently did not have any pliers to cut the cables, because the Pioneer was torn out and several cables destroyed, so they donīt have those either, which also makes the Pioneer useless :-)

HAHA jokes on them (I think :-) )

Ohh and BTW my brand new 3K$ company laptop was under the passenger seat, which they did not get

It really sounds like a "crime of opportunity", then. Probably just looking for something to steal. No wire cutters, probably minimum (force it) tools. That does not help you at all, of course. If anything the thieves do more damage to the surrounding dash and equipment.

I'd rather a thief nick a $3k laptop that belonged to someone else than an empeg that belonged to me though.
