Hugo on the radio - 10/01/2005 11:04

Just heard the BBC Radio 4 piece that Hugo was interviewed for. They used two bits from him, one about the invention of mp3mobile and the other about the failure of motor manufacturers to "get" the empeg.

There was some wonderful nonsense from the motor industry representative put up for the interview. They were asking him why car manufacturers couldn't just provide a simple plug for plugging external audio devices (iPod, Karma etc) into. He suggested that it hadn't happened because of concerns over safety, security and engine performance !

Unfortunately at no point did Hugo get to mention Rio, the only MP3 player mentioned (apart from mp3mobile and empeg) was the iPod.

The show was "You and Yours", at some point later today or tomorrow you should be able to listen to the show by going to http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/youandyours/index_20050110.shtml (that link won't work at the moment).

Blimey. Didn't Hugo mention he'd been interviewed for this ages ago?

Hey! Don't dismiss it! There is a chance that you'll crash whilst you're plugging in your super iPod with 10KW amp built in because you're on the run from the thieves that are trying to steal said iPod

Why do they try to hide the fact that it wouldn't work because they'd all try to create their own "standard" connector?

Oh, and for anyone who doesn't listen to BBC Radio 4 regularly, let me please appologise in advance for "You and Yours". It is a daily consumer show and it is not a shining example of Radio 4's normally excellent output.

It's there now, at the bottom of the page. You'll need Realplayer to listen to it.

The guy from Halfords is a little mis-informed. Apparently no manufacturer is selling a car with Trafficmaster built in. My Dads Vauxhall has Trafficmaster, it interrupts the radio when there's problems, it's quite good actually.

They also intimated that empeg failed as a business, I don't think that's strictly true.

Imagine that - a guy from Halfords being mis-informed. Whatever next!
