First Time For Everything

First Time For Everything - 11/01/2005 12:51

So I've had an empeg complete with Hijack installed for almost four years now, and not once have I ever messed with streaming on a network (for the majority of the last few years I've been working at an Army base where I couldn't plug the empeg into the network). Now that I'm at our corporate office and the network admin is cool with it I finally hung the empeg of the network for streaming. Man is this thing cool! Already I have two other people streaming music from it who are suitably impressed by my toy. Amazing that a tech toy I purchased almost for years ago is still impressing technical people!

Thanks to Mark Lord and all of the empeg guys. This is still the coolest thing I own.

The other two coolest things would be the beer fridge and the ice-climbing gear!

But I'm selling the ice tools, and I don't actually have a beer fridge, so..

I was going to say, SWMBO and the kittens (new ones here as of last week), but it would be very foolhardy to try and claim ownership of either, so..

The digital photography kit is right up there with the empeg, and third spot is probably a tie between zippy and the GPSr.

Kind of a late reply, but here are Robin and Rowan.

Zippy is our internet gateway/server box (VIA mini-ITX in a cookie-tin), and it got upgraded today with a Silicon Image SATA adapter PCI card and a repurposed 250GB SATA drive in place of a 2-year old 160GB ATA (IDE) drive.

I also swapped out the old 60W PSU for a PicoPSU (90W or 120W, dunno), and beefed up the +12V AC adapter from 42W to 60W (needed for when we plug in *two* or more external drives temporarily).

Seems to have survived the operation, and now we have an upgrade path for larger capacity drives in the future.

Cheers

You have funny shaped mosquitos; looks like a cat to me...

You can actually see the cat looking at the mosquito! Cool little bugger smile The cat, I mean...

It's not my place to say this because I'm just a mere sage in the world of photography... But, IMO, your photo would definitely rank in the photography mags I read. The composition is great: good focus on the eyes, the blur nicely captures the action and the angle of the front legs helps draw the viewer into the picture.

I would be proud to submit this pic in some of the online photo competitions out there.

It's a pity the mosquito is so small and doesn't compete in the overall frame.

Nothing Photoshop can't fix. Journalistic integrity be damned!
