Jaguars and Empeg

Jaguars and Empeg - 20/09/2000 19:06

I didn't mean to go on about the Ford-Jaguar, I love my S-type, but it lacks character. My purpose was, IMHO, a similiarity betwix the Empeg and the Jaguar. The Empegs rough yet appealing attributes, sure there's bugs and wants but it has something that made me buy the 60's sports cars in the first place. This thing can go places with tweaking and there's already staunch supporters of the Empeg, and rightfully so.
I'm #15786 and seem to be counting the hours and ready the posts, until my invitation arrives.

What's really going to bake your noodle later on; is would've happen if I hadn't said anything?

Cool, you're behind me too... but how come you dare to count the hours??? You should rather count the weeks... I don't believe my empeg will arrive at me before Christmas... if it ever does... the queue list hasn't been updated for almost 3 weeks....

Re: Jaguars and Empeg - 21/09/2000 16:06

We've contacted up to 15072 but I thought I'd leave updating the status until we reached a round number.

I think there's still a good chance of clearing the queue by the end of the month.

No, your number will probably come up at the end of September... I may correct my statement above:
perhaps I may receive an empeg by the end of November....

That's the number we reached with the old registration system (before the new web site went live). The new registrations are in a different database and I haven't started on those yet.

Re: Jaguars and Empeg - 22/09/2000 10:21

You keep coming up with these dates out of thin air, but I've said several times that we expect to clear the backlog at the end of this month. We've got from 6500 to 15000 in less than two months, so we're not doing badly!

I'll tell you what - if it makes you happier I'll guarantee that we will reach you before the end of September.

Greetings!

I was just kind of curious. It did seem like an odd number. It makes sense. Is the old site still around anywhere to look through?

Nope, the old site has been consigned to the depths of my hard disk.

Pity. I have been trying to do as much reading as possible. Thanks!

There's much more info on the new site than there was on the old one. Have you also seen the geek site? geek.empeg.com

Re: Jaguars and Empeg - 22/09/2000 10:51

Greetings!

Yes, I have. Basically, I have been reading as much as I can - the normal site, the geek site, the developer board and this board. I have read the reviews (I wasn't too happy with the depth the ZD reviewer went into...). I guess I am just another obsessed fan!

Re: Jaguars and Empeg - 24/09/2000 12:27

Sorry, Rob, I didn't wanna blame you for that delay; it's just - well, I'm waitin' for almost 4 months right now, and though I bet there are guys who've waited much longer, it's not merely impatience but also dissappointment: you join a BBS, read almost every week the recent progress in delivery, and suddenly - just a few numbers before mine arrives (thanks to Murphy ;-(? ), the production queue seems to... stop. No more progress informations... well, that was worrying me; but if you guarantee me, that you hit my numbers in September, I donno what to answer... probably something like..."thank you"... :-)

Re: Jaguars and Empeg - 24/09/2000 16:46

I invited up to 15250 today, and production should be back on target this week. That gives me a week to reach you, and it's quite achievable - a guarantee is a guarantee after all!

Re: Jaguars and Empeg - 26/09/2000 03:52

Greetings!

Just an update from one of the (former) impatient ones. I received my invitation this past Sunday (24 Sept), ordered the same day, and received a shipping confirmation Monday (25 Sept). One day turnaround time just cannot be beaten. Rob, my compliments and thanks!

I immediately called FedEx International (+1 800 2474747 to those in the US). I was transferred to my "case agent" who, fortunately, has seen an empeg before!!! I don't know whose he handled, but he recognized it as an "in car computerized music system", and quickly faxed me a form 5601 (I think that was the number). I just as quickly filled it out and faxed it back. According to him, he doesn't understand why it keeps getting hung up, but mine might have been because the price was over US$2,000 (after extras...). Hopefully, it will clear the red tape soon.

Re: Customs Hell!! - 27/09/2000 23:06

Yes, additional forms apply to goods imported in excess of USD 2000 -- my shipment was also held for a while in Memphis customs.

The savvy but patient 36Gb customer might wish to put extras in a separate order, so the values of each shipment are below $2k, but I can't imagine that there are many queued with both of those qualities.

Cheers to customer support for bludgeoning Fedex with paperwork on my behalf. Thanks, guys.

Re: Customs Hell!! - 28/09/2000 03:55

Greetings!

Well, I seem to have cleared customs, thanks to a quick 5106 form, a Fedex guy who has actually handled empegs before, and a paperwork inspection by the FDA (I would have never thought that the Food & Drug Administration would handle FCC emissions stuff...). But now, I have wandered into another delay. Has anyone seen this before?

Update: Well, that message just means that they haven't gotten it cleared through yet. The FDA still hasn't released the unit, even though the FedEx agent said all the paperwork was in order. I will be talking with the FedEx rep handling the FDA side in a little while...

The additional shipping cost may not make this worthwhile, unless you ship the extras by recorded airmail - but then they'll take a week to turn up.
