Ok.. this is a superficial question... but I might as well have the unit look nice..

Does anyone know if the empeg BLUE unit is at all similar to the Blue that VW uses for the dash and radios for their new models?
Would it make more sense to get the red to match the red that is used in the VW's? It seems like it is easier for the reds to match?

Thanks...

The blue is quite a good match for VW dashboards - Hugo has one in his new Beetle and although it isn't a perfect match you have to look twice to tell the difference.

The blue is also brighter and has better contrast than the red. I'd suggest going for the red only if you need to match red illumination.

Interesting. My Mark 1 blue is much lighter than the blue illumination in my Jetta, and I thought the Mark 2 blue was even lighter than the Mark 1 blue... On the other hand, my red Mark 2 is close to - but not quite - the color of the red on the VW dash. It's obvious that it's not the same red, but it blends in pretty well nonetheless.

on a side side notice. how far off will it be as i have indiglo gaugues (the normal indiglo not the deep blue) is there by chance a tealish green that maybe hugo or rob have hidden away somewhere?

I originally went for the red faceplate so that it would match the illumination in my TT. Now I have changed to blue, as the red is simply not bright enough in daylight to be easily seen. This is not an AR issue, but a simple optics issue. The red colour of the face just doesn't allow enough of the green light from the display to pass through. Short of changing the display to emit light from closer to the red end of the spectrum, there is nothing that can be done about this.

Also, the red colour is actually closer to orange in actual use. It more closely matches the colour of BMW instruments that it does the Audi.

I have gladly traded the colour match for readability and contrast.

Andy.

I ordered the red as I think it'll best match my dash. But I also want the Amber. I know that the amber is sold out, but what will the "queueing" process for the amber be? I'd be willing to pay now (add to my order placed yesterday) and just have it sent to me once available.

Being a fellow TT owner, I think that the Red is very similar to the Audi Red. It's probably a little darker.

I've not had any trouble reading the display except in direct sunlight, where it is impossible to read (and this has been well hashed).

Bagpuss, do you have a Coupe or Drop Top?

Cheers,

Paul.

We're not taking advance orders.

We have another 1000 screens in manufacture at the moment - these aren't intended for fitting to players, they're set aside for sale as replacement panels. They will be anti-reflection coated.

Hi,

Just got my red empeg. In my Audi A4, the empeg looks too orange compared to the red illumination there is in the car.

I assume there will be an announcement of sorts on the boards (vs. email notification)?

I've got the indiglo gauges (not the deep blue ones, the tealish one) and the match with the Blue Empeg is beautiful. Check out this picture. It's blurry as hell, but you can still see the color match. I'll see if i can get a better picture for ya if you'd like. =]

As with Bagpuss, I origianally got the "red" to match my BMW. The colors matched perfectly, but I found the screen to be quite difficult to read in daytime. Now, I've got a blue screen. It doesn't match the gauges all that well, but the visibility difference won me over to blue.

I took some pictures a while ago that may or may not be helpful to folks trying to decide on a color.
