empeg cubicle camouflage - 03/10/2000 14:22

Being the proud owner of a 40GB Mark2, I am ultra paranoid of theft. Here is a quick solution to prevent people you don't know from walking by your cubicle and snatching the empeg player while you have stepped away for 5 minutes.

Get a 1/2 empty kleenex box. Cut and fold the backside and bottom into itself. Tape into place. This will yield an empeg sized hidden compartment behind/underneath the box. Set the box on top of the player with the wires hanging out the opening cut into the back of the box.

Voila! Instant camouflage. Nearly invisible from any angle.

The only thing I need now is camouflage for the kleenex, which is pretty hard to come by in my office ;)

I was pleased to find a Kensington-style laptop lock slot on the back upper right corner of the enclosure, so I just lock up my empeg with a standard laptop cable. This is slightly more gratifying, because people can see it out there in the open and can only be jealous.

It was put there on the Mk.II for precisely that sort of reason.

Just a quick question... did all the Mark II's have this "lock?" Mine doesn't seem to have one.

Yes, they all have this. It's just a slot on the back, above the power connector. A laptop security cable will fit into this.

Do you really work in a place where things get stolen within 5 minutes? Heck, I leave things laying around all the time (portable player, cell phone, external Jaz drive)..I would not leave my EMPEG overnight but the other stuff I have.

Just stuff it in a desk and lock it instead of camo.

I am a number, BUT I am almost a free man! And that number is 15562 which now equals an 18Gb Green!

Of course not! What would you listen to all the way home?

If I take the car without the extra docking sled, sometimes I leave it at work. Heck I was away from work for 7 whole hours yesterday... Last out, first in... I cannot wait for this project ot wrap up, then it's off to London, and maybe a trip up to Cambridge for a factory tour But if I went there, they'd probably expect me to actually stop in the ARM headquarters and do some work...
