empeg.com down? - 28/03/2006 06:36

I was just heading to download emplode and am unable to. I get a "403 Forbidden" for both the "Latest Software" link above as well as the home page. Any ideas?

That'd be the bill being on a credit card that doesn't exist anymore

Don't worry, it's all archived. It'll be moving to a new home shortly.

Me too. I desparately needed to download my music with jEmplode, but I didn't have the USB driver in my windows installation. Ended up having to use the inf cache from an old installation to get the driver on.

Started panicing last night! In the end managed to get jEmplode working over ethernet by starting java from the command line, wouldn't work if I just double clicked on the jar file.

Does this mean that empeg.com just became available for regestration.

I think Rob V. registered that for 10 years right after SonicBlue bought them.

It's registered until June 10, 2008 to "Empeg Ltd" (whoever owns that these days). Hugo's the point of contact, though. Is 69 Hemingford Rd still the correct address?

I think it's still registered -- it's just that the hosting agreement expired.

Hugo, you should really learn not to make such sweeping statements. :-)

It looks like I didn't archive the database that drove the news stories and stuff so it's going to require a bit of work to recover. At least all the files are available though.

Surely the old host hasn't deleted them yet. Maybe they'll give them back if you ask nicely.

Re: empeg.com down? - 29/03/2006 13:32

I confess to being somewhat worried about this turn of events.

We really need to either clone this and get it hosted elsewhere or find another solution, as it was the sole source of original downloads.

Hugo, Mike, if you need contributions to get this back on the air, then I am prepared to pay and I suspect so will many others. Please keep us informed about this!

I have all of the software downloads that were available from empeg.com, so they're backed up in at least one more place.

Cheers

So, what's the deal? Who can hook us up with emplode? I need it for jEmplode (USB) and I can't get it from my normal source. Anyone here got it and willing to post it somewhere?

Temporarily, can people with the downloads stick them on the riocar.org download section? This would seem to be an obvious place to put them until normal service is resumed.

Too bad this didn't happen today. It would have been a nice April Fools day joke.

Not as nice as my dad moving my car a few blocks and waking up thinking it was stolen

Anyways, ditto on the contributions

Re: empeg.com down? - 11/04/2006 10:59

Firstly - thanks to David Moss (of empeg car support fame) for providing the hosting for this.

Secondly - thanks to Rob for turning the partial image I'd made of the website prior to its disappearance into something useful and usable.

Thirdly - the DNS change only happened yesterday morning so it's possible that a server near you still has the old address cached. If you're having trouble then you can try http://empeg.illansis.net/ instead which has had longer to propagate.

Mike.
