Remotecontrol - 10/10/2000 00:02

This may or may not have been asked before, but is there new coverplates for the remote on the way or in development? - After a week with the empeg, i'm still confused which buttons to press when searching and changing info.. Can't imagine it gets any easier when it gets mounted in my car.

Regards,
Kaare.

Actually you really will get used to the buttons after a little use. And if not, here's a page to help you out.

We're still waiting for empeg branded remotes - far east manufacturers don't exactly rush over these things, it seems.

Now I know you aren't going to give away Empeg-branded remotes, but I want one! Any idea when and how much they are likely to cost?

Re: Remotecontrol - 11/10/2000 03:00

I would guess that they'll be the same price as the current Kenwood remotes.

Did I miss it somewhere? Is there a picture of what the empeg remote will look like, i.e., how will the buttons be labelled?

Re: Remotecontrol - 11/10/2000 14:14

Any plans on eventually putting a small display on the remote itself? I'd be willing to pay a large amount of money for a remote with this feature.

Here's a good shot of the remote from the empeg meet in Amersfoort.

No, no plans for that. Radio would be needed (or maybe bluetooth) and it's a big project that would be a bitch on approvals. I don't think it's really relevent to a car player - in fact it sounds rather dangerous.

That is pretty much how it'll look, except they screwed the print up so the design will be nicer and without typos or ridiculous fonts.

I was thinking more for home use. Not just the display, but maybe a larger remote with more functions.
Just a far-fetched wish I guess.

No, no plans for that.

No official plans that is.

Not such a far-fetched wish. It's actually already been designed. Expect a few cool empeg toy designs possibly after version 1.1 software upgrade.

Killer, guess i'll just have to wait and see what comes up.

Speaking of kewl toys, a shuttle control on a remote would be nice.

That gives me an idea. I have a Marantz SR-19 receiver and its remote has a display (just text) which I can program. So, I could put all the EMPEG stuff into that and use it to control the empeg and my entire HTS with it. Nice idea!

Ahh, so they'll spell synchronization correctly. (even the BBS Check Spelling gets it right!)

Whoops, didn't mean to imply that empeg is designing those toys, just me.

Re: Remotecontrol - 12/10/2000 22:29

Just a quick note on the "kenwood" remote. - while showing the Mk2 to many people - about 80% asked me from which company the player is ("Is it from kenwood?") because of the remote.

Maybe you should have a thought about something like a logo or your company's name printed on the frontpanel and hurrying up the remotecontrol overlay.

Yep, I've had that heaps too! "Oh, it's a Kenwood!" Gives me a good excuse to explain who empeg are I suppose ...

With apologies to anyone trying to have a serious discussion here, I saw "Remotecontrol" written as one word and assumed this was going to be a thread about a Kraftwerk song I hadn't previously heard of...

We rejected the designs for adding a logo to the panel - they spoiled the overall appearance of the product. The only place there's a marketing necessity for a logo is the showroom, and we'll take care of that in more elaborate ways if we move to dealer resale.

The remote doesn't just need an overlay - Kenwood won't sell those remotes to us, we need an entire remote with our own codeset in it. It has taken almost a year and a half to find a manufacturer willing to sell us remotes in small quantities (thousands as opposed to hundreds of thousands).

Re: Remotecontrol - 14/10/2000 19:38

I hope empeg doesn't make the move to dealer resale. Customers would have to pay a middle man.

However, from a business standpoint empeg would probably sell a lot more players if they were in local stores.

Re: Remotecontrol - 14/10/2000 20:04

Yeah, that's what I've done with my Philips Pronto. Since I can just add a new device to the controller, I have every keystroke programmed in. Very convenient at home.

I'm glad empeg decided against the logo on the faceplate. They had it located just under and to the right of the screen and on the glass. It definitely would have drawn attention away from the screen. But that was another debate all together...

About the new remote- are those the finalized plans for the button functions? Because they're different then they are now. Any reason for the stuff like moving the shuffle button from 0 to 8?

Re: Remotecontrol - 15/10/2000 03:25

The new remote is a clean start, intended to make everything logical. A few functions have moved position.

For those that aren't ready to go legacy free, I believe the Kenwood will continue to be supported with it's current layout.
