Solid State Hard Drive - 03/04/2001 20:56

so I was looking at the geek.com insane system. In which they use (8) 3.2 gig solid state hard drives made by Quantum. Meaning this suckers are like a giant smart media card. No moving parts. Would empeg support this type of hard drive? They have a .05 ms access time! And they cant be jolted. Ofcourse I think they're like $28,000 but hey...

If they've got an ide bus and are 2.5" form factor, then yes it will support them.

Most likely though (well, the ones I've seen) are DRAM based but with flash/laptop hdd backup & onboard small UPS (so you can pull the power and they retain contents) with a SCSI interface.

Useful for speeding up servers when you have plenty of money and can't frob the software running yourself :)
