Those who have used the PDA-as-IR-remote programs generally say that, although it works, the IR LED doesn't shine as brightly as one on a dedicated IR remote, so they don't work as reliably from a distance.

At least that's what I seem to remember. I could be remembering it wrong, though.

Personally, I'd prefer a dedicated remote with tactile buttons that I don't have to look at to operate.

yes i agree with you about thefeal of the buttons ,but my wife does a lot of serches so the backlight on the pda would be good at night

Yeep, I did some work on that! But only for to play around with them! You can buy also for the Visor a Springboard module to have a more powerfull (distance) remote control.

Check the attachment!

Yeah I use a different software package (Palm Remote I think?) to control my empeg. The range is pretty limited, but it is handy for searches at work since I always have my palm with me anyway.

Has anyone seen such a thing for PocketPC (the software that is). From what I read a device like the compaq iPAQ has a pretty strong IR led so it would do ok presumably. But I don't see software for it anywhere. I would love to try some though.

Not just for the empeg either.

Cheers,
Hans
