ID3 v2

ID3 v2 - 20/08/2001 06:19

Hi all,

just a general questions to the Empeg guys and the alpha testers:

Will 2.0 completely support ID3 v2 or stick with something similar to v1? What I am referring to is the information contained in the file descriptors on the Empeg itself, _not_ the information actually contained in the MP3s.

As I want to create a tag syncher and ID3 v2 write support is a pain, I'd like to know if I can drop ID3 v2 write support and stick with v1.

Till

For MP3 files, emplode v2 will support a subset of ID3v2. In short, we've dropped id3lib -- it's not being actively maintained, and it does far more than we need it to.

As far as the contents of the *1files, we reserve the right to create new tags at will. However, the names will generally be stable -- i.e. title will continue to be called title.

The problem with writing only the ID3v1 tags is that they're limited to 30 characters. The contents of the *1 file are limited to 254 characters.
