I don't know a whole lot about linux but I write 3d video drivers for WinXP so I'm not a complete idiot. I'd like to try some of the custom kernals and hacks etc that are talked about on the board and maybe do some programing. If I totatly screw up my Rio Car, can I just reinstall the 1.03 image useing the wizard? Whats the process for restoring everything back to the defaults?

Once you reinstall the image, everything should be reset.

That's exactly right.

The upgrade wizard re-flashes the kernel and rewrites the boot/player/software partition from scratch.

And the software that listens for the upgrade signal is in ROM, and it's the first thing the player does when power is applied. So no matter what you do to the hard disk, you can at least start over with an upgrade.

Very clever, the way they made it idiot-proof like that.
