displayserver on MKI? - 07/09/2001 19:29

Can DisplayServer work on MKI or just MKII?

Also does anyone have Tony's Logo Editor anymore? His site isn't working.

Thanks.

John

Displayserver will probably run on a Mk1, but it won't do any good as it's ethernet-only and Mk1's don't have ethernet.

My ISP is screwing me over with regard to my web site. Temporarily you can find it at http://pweb.jps.net/~tfabris until things settle and then it's be at a new address (grr...)

There is no work around for displayserver then? That sucks.

That is the one thing I want to do with my MKI (besides play music).

What sort of work-around would you like? Displayserver is a web server running on the empeg. Last I heard, web servers required some kind of a network. If you don't have a network connection, what's the point of having a web server?

Now, it was rumored that it might be possible (with a LOT of work) to figure out how to get a PPP connection running over USB. But I never saw it come to light.

If the only thing you want to do is copy files back off the empeg, then there is a usb-only solution for you, but it's not the same as displayserver.

Or you could run SLIP over the serial port. You would have to get this running and have it connected to a suitable host/router, but it is all possible. Anything is possible if you are determined enough If you look here there is an example of someone running a web server on a PIC!! and it connects directly to a router over a SLIP connection. If someone can do that with a PIC then it should be easy with an empeg!!

It's in the FAQ section of this BBS under the heading "Can I copy MP3 files back onto my PC?"
