TV out

TV out - 28/12/2001 13:28

The only problem with using an empeg indoors has been the small display not being readable from the sofa. While others have sucessfully extracted data off the serial port and are/were working on an TV interface , it's not a simple thing to do. Being bored today, I set a CCD camera in front of the player and found out the display on the TV looked pretty good. I'll be permanently mounting the camera in the stereo rack. The particular camera had a negative image selection that made the picture look alot better than in normal mode.
Over the NewYears people won't be on their knees in front of the stereo:)
If you've got a small video camera laying around give it a try...

Now that's a very interesting idea. Never thought of that. HMM.

Hopefully, there will be some people on their knees in front of me, instead. And not just over New Year's, either.

What? Huh? This is a family BBS? What ever do you mean?

I'm looking for a small board camera, I believe you can change them to negative image by adding one transistor.

Okay, I updated the FAQ with a link to this nifty idea.

I know I was thinking it, but I didn't say it. It's called "restraint".

I love that it is a great idea very lateral thinking but there is always display server

You wouldn't need that fast a PC to display it and stream mp3s

Ahh, admit it. It's just sour grapes because I posted it before you did.

Re: TV out - 18/01/2002 11:48

I have about got the details finished for my enclosure, haven't found a suitable camera yet that I can get in quantaties. So far a minature b/w ccd camera works best, black background/white text. I am looking at getting an ir extender to increase the remotes range. If there is any interest I may make several or make the cameras available. Can anyone reccomend an IR extender that will work?

Re: TV out - 18/01/2002 16:19

I can't recommend one, but I can certainly advise you to avoid the Radio Shack ones. I'm using one for my Tivo and the damm thing creates so much IR noise that makes all other remotes non functional to the original device's receivers. I've got to disect these crummy IR extenders and find a gain adjustment one of these days. YMMV.
Cheers!

Alan,

I've had some luck with the X-10 IR extenders http://www.x10.com/products/x10_pm5900.htm . They also make some cheap B/W and color cameras that can be set up with a wireless link.

It sucks that they make such cool products... I'm now loathe to buy from them because of their HORENDOUS ad campaign that has infected the entire freaking web. Grrr.

Re: TV out - 19/01/2002 00:00

Seriously. I see ads for their cameras everywhere I turn! Their popups probably count for 50% of the total.

However, I love x10. I've got a crapload of their products. I've got my house lights automated, with a timer and even an IR receiver that takes signals from my Pronto.

Also, for parties, I hookup a video sender to my computer in my bedroom to a HT in the living room and blast out the tunes and Winamp visuals on the big screen.

I do want to try their IR extenders though. You could do some really cool stuff with that AND the video sender

Alan, I am curious with what you came up with regarding using a camera to transmit the Empeg screen to a TV. I want to the same in my car, so I can mount my Empeg in the glove box and send the image of the screen to a monitor in my dash (I have no space in the dash for the Empeg). I am also interested in what you came up with re IR extension. I guess my particular needs require DC powered stuff. Would appreciate a roundup of your discoveries. Thx.
