Please welcome my good friend Tod (one d only please!) who just signed up as CommOri.

Tod's player/tuner should be arriving on Monday. We'll be installing it into his Dodge Durango some time in the upcoming weeks and getting some good Install Porn for you to gawk at. We're hoping we can integrate his steering wheel controls with a plug-in module, and it will be interesting finding out whether or not his car has a built-in amp or not.

Good luck in finding any buildt in amps. I had to rip the whole Chevy apart before I could find it. I would recommend a tech. handbook.
There are one online that I've subscribed to. Look at www.alldata.com.

Thanks for that link to Alldata.

I'm not sure we will need to rip the car apart to find an amp. All we need is to know whether or not one exists in that car, and if so, simply get the necessary adapter part from Crutchfield.

Now, if there's no built-in amp in that car, that's when we have to start dismantling things so we can mount the amp and run the cabling.

You know, I forgot to ask Tod if his car was leased or purchased?

Well, there was an amp. in mine, but it wasn't that powerfull so I ran new wires,
Power and signal to my new amp. I used the original wires for the speakers, bought an adapter for it like you are going to.

I'll also be doing an install in my 98 Ford Ranger tomorrow. Should get some pics up soon.

Couldn't you measure the resistance between the wires that disappear off to the speakers (or amp if it has one)? If the wires go directly to the speakers you'll get a resistance of just a few ohms but if they go to the inputs of an amp the resistance will be much higher (I think). Forgive me if I've misunderstood.
Oh... and welcome Tod (with one 'D') .

Thanks for the welcomes and the ideas.

I just got the unit this morning and I've been playing with it all day. I haven't even gone out to find the parts I'll need to put it in the Durango yet, been too busy hacking away at things.

This beautiful little guy worked right out of the box. Of course, it's got my library on it now and I've got the dev kernel going. I've been having fun poking around with the OS. I've got some enjoyable hacking ahead of me here.

Welcome Tod! As Tony already told you enough times, I'm sure, you will never regret for getting the empeg!
