All you'd need to do is write (or port from somewhere) an x86 emulator, and then do the whole Wine-module-loader thing that DivX does.

That's a "no", basically. It's jolly hard work and you'd never get it to run at any decent framerate.

While the Winamp avs may be too much to port over.... It sure would be nice if the visual styles in the Empeg could be added and removed in an a-la-cart fashion.
To be able to download and sync user contributed custom visuals into the player from the forum would be awesome.

There are a ton of visuals already on the Empeg but I would love the ability to choose which ones I would have avaliable to cycle through so I did not have to cycle thru so many to get to the ones I want.

If you are running 2.0b7 you can set up favourite visuals. Here's an extract from the release notes:

It is now possible to have a list of favourite visuals which can be cycled
by pressing the 'Visual' button on a Rio remote. The list is channel
dependent and resides in the config.ini file of the player as shown below -
This list could be updated via emplode eventually. Pressing and holding the
'Visual' button will toggle between 'Favourites mode' and 'All visuals' if a
favourites list is available for that channel.

config.ini :

[VisualFavourites_DSP]
count=n
1=Visual Name
n=Visual Name
[VisualFavourites_AUX]
...
[VisualFavourites_FM]
...
[VisualFavourites_AM]
