New 25GB IBM laptop drive - 14/08/1999 07:46
Have a look at this URL:

Now, how many tracks could you store with nearly 50GB of disk space?

Going by an average track size of 4.5MB, gives about 11.5K tracks. Question is when will IBM have availability? They are renowned for selling vapour-ware (announcing product months and months before it is actuallly ready to ship). This is what happened with the 14GB unit (which has only recently been made available).

I think the drive would be great.
It has a physical depth of 17mm (the full form factor). Will Empeg provide a shoe horn to help install these MASSIVE drives?
Roughly 870 hours continous music. Anyone own that much yet?

Instead of putting more tunes on that size of disc, how about increasing the bitrate.. =)
Hell, with 50 Gig, you'd get more than 60 full cd's in raw uncompressed format.. =)

Yes... but look how cheap (relatively) the 14's are now.... $5xx is not to bad... I would image, that if you can find a 25, it will be $1k!
But, still *50* Gigs?!?! Wow.... yes, about 79 CD's in raw format :) ... or, about *1000* CD's in high variable bit rate! Yeppers!
Now if it just had a 10/100 Nic.... and SP/DIF Optical output.... but, sigh...
Also, it would be great if you can buy the unit, without the HD.... who cares about a 4gig drive? Bah...
