Yeah, I think I remember seeing this in the Fiat featured in Dario Argenti's Sleepless, with Max von Sydow.

What a freakshow that one was. Watch it on an empty stomach.

Unlikely. I think the MP3 player listed in that specification was a CD-R based unit. I don't think the Cambridge guys have ever done one of those.

Yes, I agree, but remember that the "Mark III" probably whould have been able to play mp3 CD-Rs

More likely, it would have grabbed the files off of a CDR and put them on its hard disk. This is slightly different than being a no-hard-disk CDR-only player.

That would of course be the normal operation mode for the "Mark III". But I suppose it could also play directly... and, by the way, the web page about the Fiat is not detailed enough to answer this question.

(But the "My Car" part of it convinced me....)

Copying them to HD would be better. Then you can remove the disc and feed another or just play from HD and not worry about skipping or the CD trying to spin while driving. I heard those CD-R mp3 players skip like crazy.

I've never tried them, but if Hugo&the Boys had built one, it wouldn't skip. :-)
