Recommend a carry case?

Recommend a carry case? - 09/04/2002 12:46

Well, I'm a proud new owner of a very cool Empeg/Rio Car. I love it very much but I really need to find a carry case for when I'm not in the car. I've had a look at the various hard and soft cases that people are using but they're all a bit too big for me. What I'd like is something like the official case (shame there aren't any left) where it's got just the minimum of padding and it's just big enough for the Empeg itself and not much more. Ideally I'd like a neopreme (sp?) case but I think I'm probably pushing my luck there.

Any ideas? (btw, ideally I'd like one in the UK or at least available to UK customers)

Thanks in advance,

Greg Nolle.

It occurs to me that someone on the BBS who is into sewing (or has a friend/spouse/relative that's into sewing) could whip together a nice pattern based on the original empeg design. They could make the pattern public, and they could also make some money by selling premade cases mail-order.

Is it hard to sew that canvas-like bag material? What about the nylon straps?

Okay, this is a somewhat broad statement, but...

The empeg is a geek product. How many geeks do you know who can sew? And good enough to do that...

Most of my geek friends can't even cook.

Not really... I've made back/butt-packs (for carrying reloading tubes with paintballs) in similar materials with a far more complex pattern (re-engineered). Only tricky part is the padding, but that shouldn't be all that hard either.

Best part is that one could add a little more padding than the original case...

Hmmmm, this brings up something I've been thinking about for a while. In my home town in california (i'm away at university now) there's a place that makes custom scuba diving wet suits. Even better is the fact that they think the world of my dad, and that goodwill might transfer over to me. When I get home for the summer in a month or two I will take my empeg by and see if they could make a custom case with a nice pocket on the front...

My personal feelings is that it should just about fit the empeg and have some sort of flap that was sown so it stretched over the display and held tight. I'll I'd want a pocket for would be the remote.

The Nintendo Game Boy Advance carry bag is an outstanding fit, and has a pocket for your telephone. At only $15 (US), what more could you want? (besides a free tuner module included) I found mine at Best Buy.

Is it this one? Seems to fit your description.

I find it kind of funny that I use my spare empeg case for my GBA.

Howdy,

Get a Pelican case (Industrial strength, hard sided case). I saw someone else with one for their Empeg on a web site somewhere so I decided to get one. Very solid case! Waterproof/Dustproof/etc...

I bought a Pelican 1200 which is great for being safe (padded) and secure (lockable).
But it is not always practicable when going out or just walking around town.

I went looking for the Nintendo Gameboy-Advance case that CrashLander recommended.
Not finding this in my local shops; I instead came across this one:
CaseLogic-DM2
I highly recommend it.

Although not as tight fitting as you are probably looking for;
this case is well padded, lined inside with a soft fabric, has front pockets
for phone and stuff, has grab strap that extends to shoulder strap, double
zippers that can be padlocked together.
This is ideal for someone who needs a little extra space for stuff, without
having to take a full rucksack. I use it for day to day at-work storage,
as it doesn't attract much attention like the Pelican case.
BTW, my answer to "what is that" (Pelican) is; "my lunch box",
"I have expensive tastes!" (locked!).

Hope this info helps someone.

That Case Logic DM2 looks to be pretty much the same thing as the Case Logic PDC-1 that I had. Because the shoulder strap of the PDC-1 slipped off my shoulder, it resulted in a cracked faceplate on my Mk1. I like the empeg bag better because it is smaller and does not have a shoulder strap, forcing you to use its handle (which is safer all around).

Faulty shoulder strap, huh?

I went with Nick (friend at work who just got an empeg) and picked one of the GBA cases today. It's a tight fit, but a nice case. it even has a pretty good sized front pocket for all your extra crap. $20 at your local EB.

The GBA case looks like it'll be the best for my needs but BestBuy won't let me order from the UK. Does anyone know of something similar available in the UK?

Thanks,

Greg Nolle.

I just wanted to bring this thread back from the dead and add some more. I picked up the Pelican Game Boy case at fry's thinking I was finding something compleetly new that would fit it great and I'd come back here and report it... Later that day while wandering around at best buy, I saw the same case, but noticed it was branded by Nintendo instead. It's an identical case and it fits my mkIIa great, and is a good deal at $13.

Now I just need to complete my collection with a real pelican hardsided case for those longer trips...

If you don't want to make your own there's one that's made for the nintendo/play station travel game thingy.. the case is made by PELICAN. If you want, I'll post photos (send personal message)
