Colored Lenses - 11/04/2002 04:54

The website is up now and the link is in the top bar of the BBS here, for those that didn't know.

Order have been just barely enough for me to keep making them, for now at least.

I have gotten a lot of requests since I started making them for an Amber lens so this weekend I will look around for some and also for a Neon Blue if I can find it.
Oh and maybe a Purple.
I have already found where I can get Amber but am going to look for more sources since most of you that asked were trying to match an interior.

Anyway if your interested in the lenses, don't hesitate to order, since a constant flow is what I will need to keep making them.

Hi Steve,

I'm kinda hanging off ordering a few at the moment to see if you get some Neon Blue material. Do you think you'll be able to find some? Obviously the place where you got the Neon green, red etc don't have it....

Re: Colored Lenses - 11/04/2002 21:50

Well from what Tony says and I can see in the pictures the Light Blue has that effect just not as pronounced as the Neon Red or Green.

None the less I am going to search this weekend, but from my preliminary search before I'm not that optimistic. We'll see.

Re: Colored Lenses - 12/04/2002 07:14

Is there any sort of colored transparent film w/adhesive that could be used on the lenses to "customize" a lense color?

Perhaps with some trial and error a whole range of color combinations could be achieved for every car and listed on your site. i.e. - VW New Beetle = light blue + this brand and item # adhesive film...

Of course applying the film properly would require a steady hand but hey you could even do it for an extra fee..

I dunno if this would work, but it might help a few people..

I bought the clear faceplate for this reason. Combined with a transparancy and a printer that will work with them, you can get any color, or colors you want. While it's not sticky, tape off to the non-visible parts of the plate would seem to work fine. I haven't played with it much yet though.

Cool, and most printable transparenciws have a side/surface that offers some anti-reflective properties..

Heck, you could print multicolors covers like old vector-based arcade games(Star Castle comes to mind)..

I wonder how long the ink will keep its color??

I may try this myself too..

Have you guys thought of using automotive window tint on the lenses??? I know Foliatec makes quite a few different colors and shades of window tint...

Just a thought...

I got a clear lens and have been playing with theatre lighting gels (rosco, lee, etc). They're not sticky, but work fine behind the clear lens; the hardest part is finding colors that look nice at night and are still readable in sunlight...

Re: Colored Lenses - 16/04/2002 19:54

If anyone want's to get some gels, check here. Not only do I work for Times Square Lighting, but I also have great interest in the company (my family's business). I will check pricing tomorrow, but I expect I can get my empeg buddies really great prices.

If anyone would like a swatch book, fill out the form here and put "Empeg Swatch Book" in the Organization field. I will make sure you get a swatch book.

Re: Colored Lenses - 16/04/2002 23:38

cool form on that website :0 count me in on ordering some of those, if they are a reasnable price, they should work behind the smoke lense with an added tint to the colors.

Re: Colored Lenses - 17/04/2002 02:39

Steve - excellent lens! Just got my Neon yellow/green one in the car and boy is it bright! I guess I might need to order Brian's button kit for the extra cool factor. Hmm, should I wait till my warranty expires first? Decisions decisions.

Thanks a lot Steve!

Re: Colored Lenses - 17/04/2002 07:05

OK, Thanks to everyone that sent a request. They're going out in the mail today.

We can do 21" x 24" sheets for $2.00 per sheet for Empeg folk. If you are in the industry, keep this on the down-low because this stuff retails for around $5 and we do not sell direct to the public. One issue is that we ship this stuff in a tube via UPS. The shipping will likely be more costly than the actual product due to the size. If anyone wants to get some at the Boston meet, I will be sure to bring some with me.

Re: Colored Lenses - 17/04/2002 07:49

I have been thinking that my smoked lens could be more "green". Would I better off adding a light light green gel behind a clear or a smoked lens?

Re: Colored Lenses - 17/04/2002 07:55

I don't know what the gels look like on the empeg yet. I ordered a smoke and clear lens from darkstorm when he first started making them for the Mk2. For the life of me, I cannot find them.

Just last week, I ordered another clear lens. When I get it, I will do some experimenting and picture taking.

Re: Colored Lenses - 17/04/2002 08:01

Oh, this is what the swatch book looks like:

Each sample cut is about 3.5"x1.5" big. You can probably sandwich the sample between the VFD and the lens to get a good idea of what it will look like. You can take the swatch book apart quite easily by unscrewing it.

Re: Colored Lenses - 17/04/2002 08:29

No, we will take your credit card over the phone. We can also do COD but that would cost extra. If anyone would like to order call 845-947-3034 and ask for Eric. I informed him of the empeg deal, so just mention this is for an empeg. He will give you the price I quoted.

Re: Colored Lenses - 24/04/2002 06:17

Just to inform of what's going on, Steve (DarkStorm) has some samples and is likely going to be distributing the gels with lenses and/or pre-cut. When this happens, I will no longer be selling them direct to empeggers.

I am still filling swatch book requests.

Gel color filters update - 24/04/2002 13:26

At this point, Steve has received the samples and put in an order for all colors. From this point on, all orders will be handled through him. You can still continue to send swatch book requests as instructed in an earlier post to Times Square Lighting. Watch Steve's website for ordering details and pricing. Thanks.
