BBS moving to a new server

BBS moving to a new server - 30/08/2003 01:47

The BBS here will be moving to the new server sometime over the weekend. When I need to lock down the database for the final move, expect a down message to be posted. When things are back up, redirects should be in place to minimise DNS caused downtime. Part of this move will probably involve the merger of rioreceiver.comms.net and empeg.comms.net depending on how much time I can dedicate to this. To legally move forward to the newer software, the merger must be done, or a second license must be bought.

I will post an update when things are settled.

Allright, current plans are to get the move done sometime Monday evening. (3 day weekend here in the States).

Expect about an hour or so of downtime around 9pm Mountain time, or 3am GMT.

Move still hasn't happened yet, the files needed didn't transfer properly while I was at a BBQ. Will look to do the move tomorrow morning.

We are now running live on the new server. Here in a few days, I will revert the URL back to just empeg.comms.net, but for now it should be accessable to everyone, no matter how empeg.comms.net resolves.

For the record, the downtime would have been shorter, but the transparent proxy my ISP runs was causing me some grief when testing the new site.
