Why Empeg Tuner?

Why Empeg Tuner? - 11/08/2002 07:21

Why is an Empeg Tuner better than any other radio tuner? I have a universal Jensen tuner hooked up to my stereo and it seems to work fine. How can one justify spending $300 on a tuner just for the empeg? Please tell me what im missing and why its worth $270 more than what my tuner costs. What are the Empeg Tuner specs?

The empeg tuner connects to the empeg and is controlled through the empeg. They were sold for 99.00 but there were not enough made so people are paying the insane prices. Like the big toy every year at christmas everyone decides they have to buy (furby).

ok so its not any better than my Jensen Universal Tuner is it? I notice oh the high notes that it seems to be a bit staticy like a radio station, i assume because its using an FM signal, or i lose some quality on the highs like with a radio station, will this happen with the Empeg car tuner?

The empeg tuner is just an FM receiver. How well it performs will be down to signal strength in your area. Analogue radio tends to suffer from static.

Yeah. Are you talking about Jensen's Universal FM Modulator?

The empeg tuner is not an FM modulator. It is an AM/FM radio tuner that allows you to listen to the radio through your empeg.

If you want only the empeg to be in your dash, for instance, if you don't have room in your dash for two stereos, then that's why you would want the tuner module.

Whether or not you want to spend $300.00 for that privilege is up to you. The tuner modules were originally much less than that, but they sold out of them. So the high ebay prices are due to demand exceeding supply, not due to any special advantages that the tuner has over any other car radio's tuner.

Keep in mind that Patrick will soon be offering tuner kits for less than that price. They will require assembly, though.

Yes that is the FM tuner that i have. It allows me to play my Empeg over my BOSE car stereo since the BOSE system is propriatary, having no RCA input or any input in the back. it does sacrafice some quality since its an FM signal and i was wondering if the Empeg Radio tuner fixed that problem, but i guess it does not, so i cannot see myself buying one to replace what i have. i would have to replace the entire system and its not worth the money at this point. maybe when i get a raise....

The thing you have is an fm modulator that transmits the signal from the empeg to your fm radio. the empeg tuner recieves fm (and am) radio. you are comparing two items that perform totally differnet functions.

The misunderstanding stems from the fact that that's not a tuner. It's a modulator or transmitter. A tuner receives FM transmissions. It's also commonly referred to as a radio. What you have sends them.

Since you already have a tuner (which I can tell by the fact that you're using it to receive the signals sent by the Jensen modulator), you have no need for the empeg tuner unless and until you decide to scrap the rest of your car stereo.
