Check out
this thread for a possible alternate remote. Remember that with Hijack you can remap the codes from a not perfectly identical remote...

Greetings!
I have a spare Kenwood remote. If you are interested, send me a PM or email.

do you know if we have to map all kinds of modifiers(longpress, menus active, etc) for each button, or can we do a 1 to 1 translation (this button = the button on rio's remote) and all the corresponding modifiers also get moved? this might be more of a question for mlord, or someone who actually has done something similar.

Just a one for one translation will work for nearly all buttons.
Things get tricky with buttons for which a LONGPRESS is normally used (on Rio Remote). Not all buttons on any given remote are capable of "longpress" operation (hardware limitation, I think).
But for the most part, it is usually reasonable easy to turn just about any random IR remote into a workable Empeg remote, using Hijack IR translations.
