Ebay Searching.. - 11/03/2004 23:30

Does anyone besides me notice that when searching on Ebay.. ex. (10 GB Empeg) the search finds nothing?? Even when I enter (Rio Car) it does not find all the Empeg matches.. it's really screwed up, I've tried narrowing my searches but some odd reason it doesn't pull up half of the items that I know are there.. Anyone else notice or have this problem?

Just out of curiosity, if they don't show up in a search, how do you know they're there?

I always just look for "empeg". If you search for "Rio Car", you'll rarely find anything, and it's just not worth digging through a ton of HO-Scale model train crap...

You can use some "wildcards" for searches on eBay. Say you find 1200 results when searching for a "wombat" and 1100 of those are for a "wassat". Just put -wassat in you search. What I use on eBay to look for Hard Drives is the following..

laptop hard 40gb -adapter -case

There is a town I used to live in where i look for merchandise sometimes. The problem is that there is a clothing like that also has the same name. I use the following to clean out most but not all of the erronious data...

sag harbor -shoe -shoes -sweaters -sneakers -vest -cardigan -shorts -slacks -blazers -jeans -dress -fleece -blouse -skirts -tops -top -sweater -blazer -wool -pants -shirt -shirts -jacket -skirt

You can also group words. For example If you search Bob Bennett you would get auctions related to Bob or Bennett. If you use "Bob Bennett" then only searches with the word group of Bob Bennet would be shown.

There are probably other "wildcards" but I an not using them right now.

Then you would not like to see what I do all day then...

Try (empeg, rio car, riocar) as your search term. Include the parenthesis, and check the 'items and descriptions' box.

Or just post a "WTB" (wanted to buy) post in this For Sale forum. Someone might pop up and offer theirs for sale. Good luck.

WHOA! Hold on there! I meant it isn't worth sorting through the HO-Scale train listings when you're looking for an empeg.

There's NOTHING wrong with model trains. We had a HUGE (room-sized) set-up when I was a kid, and it's always been a goal to someday make a HUGE train diorama with a military/"Outbreak"/happy mountain town kinda theme.

I think you may have missed my smiley...

I agree that searching through 1000 listings of a unrelated item is irritating, even if the unrelated item is RR related...

No offense taken, at all...

OOOP! I did miss the smiley! Still though, interested in helping design my post-apocalyptic model train set someday down the road?

Unfortunately, I don't think you'll find the Soviet Nuclear Missle Train or the little glowing red trees in those EBay sets.

Not a Soviet missle car but... HO TRAINS MISSLE LAUNCHER&EXPLODING TRAIN CAR

Glowing red trees... found one in this auction...

Gotta love eBay...

Now THAT'S what I'm talkin' about.

Now I just need to decide if it'll be a little mountain town or a little bayside retreat that falls victim to the horrible mutating virus....

This is beginning to sound a lot like a Calvin and Hobbes strip . . .

Hahah!!! Two points for Micman2b.

This is the first I've heard of HO Trains. Ah, just another interesting thing to read about.
