Yep I'm interested if its cheap, and since no-one else has started, I'll start off with US $100.

What all are you including? That might help with price, since things like Mark 1 docks are very rare.

Any bids for 250 euro's?

Re: MK1 6gig - 10/10/2004 18:58

I'm interested!! 250 euros may be a bit high for me, but I'm willing to put up $175 USD if that sounds acceptable. Plus, I'd pay for shipping to the USA, of course.

Please don't hesitate to Email me!

You do realize that 250 euros is about $310US, right? So you're basically offering just over 50% of the asking price.

Re: MK1 6gig - 13/10/2004 21:34

Yes, but I've also seen an MK1 10 gig w/ amp, sub, carry case, dock, and extra facia sell for $310 canadian. About $225 US on eBay. So, I think $170 is a fair bid for the unit... Better than $100 as was previously bid.
Also keep in mind, there are 20 gig MK2a units, with 2x the ram of the MK1, ethernet, and other goodies which sell for about $250.
I'd prefer an MK1 because the flat facia and Aluminum handle fit with the rest of the flat flourescent displays on my '89 Chrysler Lebaron Turbo convertable.

The Empeg is an awesome piece of equipment, but it is old, and the price of simaler devices has come down quite a bit. Thank god they retain thier value better than laptops though! My T22 which is 3 years newer and cost quite a bit more retails for the same price as an MK2 with the same size HD.

The only similar product I know of is the Dension DH100, and it retails for US$650. And it's not as good, IMO. (Which is not to say that it doesn't have certain fetaures that are better.)

Re: MK1 6gig - 14/10/2004 22:12

Well things like the iPod are cretianly a more portable alternative. Although they do not have the same flexability and customizability, they can easily be integrated with the car stereo, and taken with you once you're done driving. - A definate plus!
The Muzic Vault is a device similer to the empeg in that it is a car-only pre-amp out unit with capacity for 2 laptop HDDs. I personally think it's interface is it's major draw-back, but it is certianly cheaper new than the empeg ever was!

Does $200 sound fair? or are you unwilling to part for less than $317?

You obviously weren't around during the firesale when SonicBlue sold the empeg stock at obscenely low prices!

The MuzicVault certainly looks interesting, and they've obviously given it some serious thought. I find it amusing that they don't dare to put the empeg in their comparison table, even though they often advertise it as being 'better' than an empeg when spamming ebay's search feature.

Re: MK1 6gig - 15/10/2004 11:47

All of those that you name require either using a portable device UI, which are terrible in-car, or go through another head unit, which is expecting to be controlling a CD changer, and, as such, is quite limiting. (I suppose I could have included the new Alpine-iPod thing.) Those are not remotely equivalent IMO.
