Canon Powershot S500 maybe for sale. - 11/12/2004 02:17
I have a nearly-new Canon Powershot/Ixus S500 that I don't really need. I have a high-speed 1GB CF card and extra aftermarket battery in addition to all the stuff that normally comes with the camera.
I lost my S400 for a while and needed to replace it, so I got an S500. Of course, I eventually found the S400 and I have no need for two reasonably expensive cameras.
The S500 has been used to take only about 20 shots. I had it in my pocket for a couple hours one day and it left a superficial black smudge on the top of the camera. It effects nothing and I didn't even see if I could clean it off. Other than that, the camera is mint. The software cellophane hasn't even been opened.
If someone wants it, send me an offer via PM. I'll ship it free in the US and Canada.

I've got an IXUS 500 (Exactly the same camera just a different name since I'm in the UK) and it's a excellent 5MP compact digital.

argh. I can't decide between that camera and a Sony DSC-T1. You might have a buyer if no one picks it up but it'll be a week or so...

I have a couple different offers at this point, but it's not gone yet. Someone offered to buy the S400, and I may go that route. Check back with me if you're interested in a week.
PS- the speed on the 1GB CF card is 45X and definitely dumps images to the card faster than my unmarked 512MB card.

I had a hard time picking between the Powershot Elph line and the Sony DCS T1 as well. Things that finally made me think about the T1 more was:
larger LCD screen
more pocket friendly form factor
30 fps 640x480 MPEG movie movie mode
The downsides from the Cannon are:
Memory Stick Duo is noticibly more expensive then the Compact Flash or SD cards the Elph line takes.
No USB port on the camera directly. You either need to haul the dock around, or use a media reader if you get the T1.

Side thread...
I went and checked out the T1 in person and compared it to the new Canon SD300... I think I'm gonna go for the Canon. It's form factor is almost perfect (as is the T1) and it has some amazing video capabilities along with the pano feature that the T1 lacks. It also seems to take better photos from the samples i've seen online. The only thing that keeps me going back to the T1 is it's speed. That thing has UNREAL fast startup and shutter lag times. Fastest digital camera I've ever messed around with.
